Wondrous Words Wednesday

January 1, 2014

Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme where you can share new words that you’ve encountered or spotlight words you love.  Feel free to get creative!   If you want to play along, grab the button, write a post and come back and add your link to Mr. Linky!

Happy New Year!  With the holidays, working at the store, and “the boys” being here, I haven’t gotten much reading done, so I only managed to find one new word this week.  I found it in Christmas Bliss by Mary Kay Andrews and I feel like I should have known it since it’s actually a French word.

1. soignée – “As soon as I zipped it up and stepped into my black suede pumps with the gold buckles on the toes I felt  glamorous and, yes, positively soignée.”

Soignée means polished and well groomed, showing sophisticated elegance.

    Hi Kathy,

‘Christmas Bliss’ sounds like the perfect book for when you needed a quick, easy read. Not a book for me I’m afraid, but your excerpt was lovely, although I do know this word from way back when, in my school day French lessons!

I struggled to find more than a couple of words this week, but now that Christmas and New Year are officially over, things can start to get back to normal.

Happy New Year to you and yours.

    Yvonne

Brand new word for me. I don’t think I could even pronounce it correctly. I know a little Italian and Spanish, but with French I’m clueless.
