Wondrous Words Wednesday
Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme where you can share new words that you’ve encountered or spotlight words you love. Feel free to get creative! If you want to play along, grab the button, write a post and come back and add your link to Mr. Linky!
I’ve always known Jill of Rhapsody in Books is one smart cookie. She recently published a post all about her that included several new to me words.
1. orrery – “I love orreries – the more unusual, the better.”
Jill was actually kind enough to define this one for me: “An orrery is a model illustrating the relative positions and motions of the planets and moons in the Solar System.”

2. hermeneutics – “I love the word hermeneutics.”
Hermeneutic means the study of the methodological principles of interpretation (as of the Bible).

3. toponymy – “I love toponymy (the study of the origin of place names).”
Jill actually defined this in her sentence, but I thought I’d include it since it was new to me.

What words do you want to celebrate today?

It’s been several months since I did a Wondrous Words post, but I’ve done one today inspired by reading Dickens’s Our Mutual Friend.
I just love words.
Never heard of orrery before! That’s a great word to know!
I missed WWW in the past few weeks, I’m glad I can post again today
What a cool word the second one is. I’m still trying to pronounce it.
I don’t know these this time so you got me!
Though I should have known Orrery.

I’m ashamed to admit that you had me stumped on two of three! Great words, Kathy.
Great new words for me today.
I loved that post, and was once again dazzled with Jill’s intelligence. I like that you incorporated her words as your choices today. Very nice!
Great words today! I love all three of these words!
I’m a fan of Jill’s big/new words too. She’s given me many WWW posts.
This is disturbing… I consider myself knowledgeable about science and I love science fiction and I didn’t know the word ‘orrery’. And I should have heard it somewhere before today.
Just glancing at these words I was thinking, “I knew I’ve seen those somewhere recently.”
Then I looked closer and saw your link to Jill and realized I read that post of hers too. She is a smart lady!
I have of course read about the 2nd …but what it meant..nope
I wish I could remember thm long enough to use them!
Interesting words!
OJ is much smarter than TJ (this Jill).
Wracking my brain trying to figure out how to work hermeneutics into a sentence.
I love these words you have today! I finally got my post linked up.
Hee hee. These were all new words to me too. She’s a smartie. Or is it smarty? We should ask Jill.
Jill puts us all to shame!
Jill is pretty darn amazing!! I could only dream to be able to use words like these!!
