I found two more words in WHERE HAVE ALL THE BOYS GONE by Jenny Colgan.
1. trews – “‘Ladies!’ said Craig the Vet, looking redfaced and bluff in a pair of dark blue tartan trews and a waistcoat.”
Trews are close-fitting tartan trousers worn by certain Scottish regiments.

2. sporran – “Ian unfastened his sporran and pulled out a piece of paper.'”
A sporran is a traditional part of male Scottish Highland dress and is a pouch that performs the same function as pockets on the pocketless kilt.

What words do you want to celebrate today?
I laughed out loud many times while reading this book. I love British slang too – so many fun words!
Interesting. I have been avoiding this book but you may have swayed me.
Haven’t read this but I always learn interesting words from a Colgan novel 🙂
Books about Scotland and their quaint clothing and habits always yield a few great and entertaining new vocabulary words! Men in skirts need purses!
My Wordy Wednesday post has a bit of food history today.

Loving this Scottish themed WWW. I knew what a sporran was but not trews.
Didn’t know either
I knew both! I read a lot of highlander romance
Both new to me!!
When I say these words aloud, they sound Scottish.
