I found a new work on Twitter this week.
1. dzud – “The 2009-2010 dzud alone killed 22% of the livestock in Mongolia . . .”
A zud or dzud is a Mongolian term for a severe winter in which large number of livestock die, primarily due to starvation due to being unable to graze, in other cases directly from the cold. This disaster only occurs in Mongolia.

New to me!
Wow! A word for a specific disaster with a specific outcome and applicable to only one country. I’d love to trace the etymology of dzud!
This term is new to me as well! It’s a sad situation for sure.
Definitely a new word for me.
I never heard of this before either.
I wonder if other cultures have disaster terms that are culture-specific.
Well that’s a depressing word…
