Wondrous Words Wednesday

April 3, 2019

Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme where you can share new words that you’ve encountered or spotlight words you love.  Feel free to get creative!   If you want to play along, grab the button, write a post and come back and add your link to Mr. Linky!

I had to turn to my Word-a-Day calendar this week to find a few new words.

1. apodictic – “The apodictic tone of Lisa’s writing reflects her complete confidence in the correctness of her statements.”

Apodictic is an adjective that means expressing or of the nature of necessary truth or absolute certainty.

2. irrefragable – “In his opening statement, the prosecutor told the jury that he would be providing them with irrefragable proof that the defendant had committed the crime.”

In this case, irrefragable means impossible to refute.

3. concinnity – “Julia maintains that no modern play can rival the concinnity of the classical Greek tragedies.”

Concinnity is a noun that means harmony or elegance of design especially of literary style in adaptation of parts to a whole or to each other.
