I found several more words in THAT KIND OF MOTHER by Rumaan Alam.
1. samizdat – “You heard stories, samizdat, maybe made up, about what McDougal referred to as ‘interruption.'”
Samizdat is a noun that means the clandestine copying and distribution of literature banned by the state, especially formerly in the communist countries of eastern Europe.

2. riposte – “Rebecca felt like she must say something but the words would not come now but would visit her later, the right riposte.”
After I looked this up, I realized I should have known it. Riposte is a noun that means a quick clever reply to an insult or criticism.

3. anapest – “That was her work, wasn’t it, the search for the tidy turn of phrase, the most apt anapest.”
Anapest is a noun as well and it means a metrical foot consisting of two short or unstressed syllables followed by one long or stressed syllable.

What words do you want to celebrate today?
All 3 are new to me.
Good words! I remember a cartoon about Russia, in the days when many new books were all banned so they circulated in samizat. The woman/mother is writing a huge manuscript. The father is asking her what it is, and she says, “It’s War and Peace. The children won’t read anything unless it’s in handwriting.”
