I’ve found a couple new-to-me words in THE GIRLS by Emma Cline.
1. numinous – “The numinous and fanatic faces of the others.”
Numinous is an adjective that means having a strong religious or spiritual quality.

2. meliorative – “Caught up in the rush of her own life, in her certainty of the meliorative trajectory.”
I feel like I should have known this. Meliorate means to make better; improve.

I felt that way about that second word, too!
Didn’t know either. But I liked them both.
Numinous is interesting and new to me too. I wonder why I haven’t seen it before. I guess I’m not reading the right things.
Numinous has a nice sound and meaning! I hope to use the word before too long.
I knew meliorative because of its Latin roots — nerdy, right?
I’m going to try and use ‘meliorative trajectory’ in a conversation tomorrow…
