I found a few words in BEST DAY EVER by Kaira Rouda
1. mercaptan – “I pull out the stove, find the hose connecting the appliance to the gas line and easily cut through it, smiling when the familiar mercaptan chemical scent begins to fill the room.”
Mercaptan is any of a class of organic compounds of sulfur. It’s added to odorless natural gas to give it a smell. I knew that something was added to natural gas but never knew what.

2. chelation – “I’m almost finished with the dialysis treatments, bowel cleansing and IV chelation.”
Chelation is a method of removing certain heavy metals from the bloodstream..

What words do you want to celebrate today?
Good words! The story of why they started adding that characteristic odor to normally odorless natural gas is pretty amazing. I continued my Wordless Wednesday thing today too, here: http://maefood.blogspot.com/2018/01/eponymous-characters-in-literature.html

Not familiar with either!
I knew chelation, the other word was new to me.
The first one sounds like something sinister is going to happen.
Thanks for sharing.
Very interesting words today. It makes me think the book is also interesting.
I knew chelation (or at least chelated), but not the first word. I hope you’re enjoying Best Day Ever!
Two new ones for me.
Both are interesting words, and new to me.
These were in Best Day Ever? This is why I can’t remember new words! I don’t pay enough attention to them!
Thanks for sharing. They’re new to me. Oh this meme is great. ❤️😁👍🏻
Not words you come across too often!
I did not know any of those words but was especially happy to learn “chelation” since I have an interest in body cleansing and detoxifying. Thanks for sharing!
I once went to a new-agey kind of doctor who was obsessed with chelation.
I knew about that odor they add too but never thought about the name!
Chelation is big in autism circles.
