The Week in Review: 06.02.2017
Between the Covers
Finished last week:
If you want to read a book that makes you think about social issues and race relations, be sure to pick up THE HATE U GIVE by Angie Thomas. I cannot say enough good things about this well written, captivating, relevant book. Starr and her family live in a struggling neighborhood that erupts in violence when a young, unarmed black man is killed by the police. Most people don’t know it, but Starr was in the car with him when he was killed. She must decide if she should remain anonymous or speak up and tell Khalil’s story. I adored Starr and her family and ached for them and their community. I wanted to talk about the book while I was reading it so I’m sure it would make an excellent book club selection. Bahni Turpin does an outstanding job narrating the audio version of THE HATE U GIVE. This is one book you won’t want to miss!
Currently reading:
- KISS CARLO by Adriana Trigiani
- THEFT BY FINDING by David Sedaris
- OUT ON THE WIRE: THE STORYTELLING SECRETS OF THE NEW MASTERS OF RADIO by Jessica Abel
On the Screen
Not much of anything.

I’ve heard so many great things about this book, but haven’t picked it up so far b/c I’m not a fan of YA. Might have to make an exception for this one, though.

The Hate U Give was a hit with my book group. Loved it.
I really want to read The Hate U Give but Small Great Things gave me the biggest book hangover ever and I don’t know if I am ready for that again. It is on my list though.
