Wondrous Words Wednesday

Since I haven’t read much these last few weeks I haven’t discovered any new words, so I had to turn to my Word-a-Day calendar.
1. rectrix – “In general, your only chance to see most or all of a bird’s retrices is when the bird is in flight.”
Rectrix is a noun that means any of the quill feathers of a bird’s tail that are important in controlling flight direction.

2. fugacious – “The rock band’s rise in popularity turned out to be fugacious, and within two years its members had moved on to other careers.”
Fugacious is an adjective that means lasting a short time: evanescent.

3. wushu – “The art of wushu, we learn, draws its strength from the eyes. By staring at this student, a teacher passes it on.” — Richard Selzer, The New York Times Book Review, February 1, 1987
Wushu is a Chinese martial art most commonly called kung fu.

All are new to me, and I’ll never remember them if I see them again … LOL!
All three are new to me. I like the sound of wushu. I imagine the moves are done with very wooshing movements.

All new to me. I was thinking that I’ve maybe heard of wushu bc Booking Son practices martial arts, but nope!
