I found a new term in THIS IS HOW IT ALWAYS IS by Laurie Frankel.
1. intramedullary nail – “Lacking an intramedullary nail — she knew enought not to even ask for that one, not that she could have placed it without an X-ray anyway — she stabilized the leg with fabric wrap, a section of branch, and plates made of coconut shells.”
I’m rather glad I’ve had no reason to know this term An intramedullary nail is a metal rod forced into the medullary cavity of a bone. The medullary cavity is the central cavity of bone shafts where red bone marrow and/or yellow bone marrow is stored.

What words do you want to celebrate today?
Hi! What a great word. It actually made me feel a little queasy, though!
I have a brand new blog and thought it would be fun to join in a few memes and get to know a few folks. You’re my very first! 🙂
Interesting new word to know. A very painful word indeed.
Never heard of it… Indeed a very painful word.
I’m glad I didn’t know this word either!
I echo the other readers- wow that sounds painful. Very useful too I’m sure.
Euuwww
I will not even bother to give my score on this one. I not only didn’t know the term, I didn’t know what a medullary cavity is. I was 0-2 with only 1 word!
That one’s quite a mouthful! It’s completely new to me, too, and I must say I’m glad I’ve never had a personal need to know about it 🙂
Yikes, I’m glad I didn’t know that word!
I’m going to guess the author was a biology student at one time. I might save this word in case I’m called to be on Jeopardy.
A painful word indeed.
I’m glad I didn’t know this … LOL!
Kathy,
I’m glad I wasn’t familiar with the term intramedullary nail as well. I am interested in THIS IS HOW IT ALWAYS IS.
