Review – Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down

December 30, 2016

double-down

It’s getting close to Halloween and, as usual, Greg Heffley is scheming.  This time he’s trying to figure out how to get candy before Halloween and trying to get an invitation to Mariana Mendoza’s party.  His plans aren’t always well thought out, though, so his escapades are laugh out loud funny.

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney, so I was at my local bookstore the day the latest installment, DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: DOUBLE DOWN, came out and I was not disappointed.  To me, this was one of the stronger books in the series.

As usual, there’s a lot going on in the book and Greg is all about Greg, but somehow, Kinney makes it all work.  The illustrations are a little crude but they fit the books well.  I love the humor in these books.  If they’re honest, most people will see a little of themselves in Greg and maybe that will make them stop and think.  Since the books are written in a diary format with illustrations, they appeal to reluctant readers as well as avid ones.  Every middle grade reader (and some adult ones) you know will want a copy of DOUBLE DOWN!

I wish these had been around when my son was in elementary school!

This is such a popular series that 1 day I’m going to read one!

My youngest grandson always wanted one of these when we went to the bookstore. For some reason, he isn’t as enthused anymore…I miss his fascination for this series.

    Thanks for sharing.

My daughter has grown out of these, but she sure did love them when she was younger. Glad to see the series is still going strong.

My son loves this series. It’s amazing how the author keeps coming up with one great book after another.

I’ve not read this one but I’ve heard about it for ages. Sounds really good reading for children

They seem to keep getting better which is hard for a kid’s series to do. I’m sad my kids grew out of these, but now I can see my younger nieces and nephews enjoy them!
