Wondrous Words Wednesday

December 14, 2016

Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme where you can share new words that you’ve encountered or spotlight words you love.  Feel free to get creative!   If you want to play along, grab the button, write a post and come back and add your link to Mr. Linky!  Since I haven’t been doing much reading, I had to turn back to my Word-a-Day calendar.

1. balletomane – “Balletomanes across the country eagerly bought tickets to the famous ballerina’s final performance.”

A balletomane is a devotee of ballet.

2. megillah – “Instead of just saying she would be late, Lynette related the whole megillah of why her doctor’s appointment had to be rescheduled.”

Megillah is slang for a long involved story or account.

3. zeroth – “The Zeroth Law of thermodynamics consists of the establishment of an absolute temperature scale.” — G. Ali Mansoori, PRINCIPLES OF NANOTECHNOLOGY

Zeroth is an adjective and means being numbered zero in a series; also: of, relating to, or being a zero..

All three are new to me. I really like megillah – the meaning of the word and how it sounds. I’m going to find a way to use the word.
