Wondrous Words Wednesday

April 13, 2016

Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme where you can share new words that you’ve encountered or spotlight words you love.  Feel free to get creative!   If you want to play along, grab the button, write a post and come back and add your link to Mr. Linky!

I found one new word in Beyond Belief by Jenna Miscavige Hill.

1. enturbulate – “It could also be considered to be enturbulative for my parents at their jobs, which could cause me to get in more trouble.”

The glossary in the back of the book says enturbulate means to upset or cause disruption.  I did a little digging and discovered it’s a word that was coined by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology, and probably came from turublant or disturbed.  _____________________________________________________

I didn’t know it, but could figure it out from context and the root “turb”. Interesting how some people get away with creating their own words… Thanks for sharing.

Wow — no idea but I admit I find the history of the word to be quite interesting!
