I found a few more words in The Penguin Lessons by Tom Michell.
1. spinney – “At the next track, I turned off the road and took shelter under the largest of six or so eucalyptus trees in a spinney.”
A spinney is a small area of trees and bushes.

2. ethos – “Diego was not entirely without friends, but they were boys like him who had similar problems conforming to the ethos of the school.”
I felt like I should have known this word but couldn’t define it. Ethos is the guiding beliefs of a person, group, or organization.

What words do you want to celebrate today?
Those are both two very unusual words!
1 out of 2!
I felt the same way about ethos when I came across it a while ago and used it for a WWW entry too! Thanks for the review!
I knew spinney but had to think for a while on ethos. Great words, Kathy!
I am the same with ‘ethos’. I recognize the word and have a sense of what it means but I couldn’t really TELL you what it means.
I like the word ‘spinney’; I’ll have to look for a chance to use it!
Spinner is new and interesting. Over here in northern California we have lots of spinners. I have plenty of places to show off my new word. Thanks Kathy.
‘Ethos’ is one of my most favourite words. But, only after reading your post that I have never employed it in my blogs. 🙂 Thank you for adding this lovely word.
Spinney was new to me! 🙂
I’m late checking in because our power was out all morning. Spinney was new to me. I use ethos, occasionally.
I like the word spinney.
Those are new 🙂
It’s a miracle! I knew both words!
