At the end of the year, it’s always fun to reflect on your reading.  I read less books last year and didn’t love quite as many of them.  I’m not sure if that means I’m not choosing my books as well or if it’s a reflection of how busy I was.  Either way, of the books I read this year, there are quite a few that stand out to me.  (Please note, these books weren’t necessarily published in 2015.)  I featured the adult books yesterday and am featuring the children’s books today.

2015 favorites 3

  • I DON’T LIKE SNAKES by Nicola Davies didn’t make me have a sudden love of snakes but it did help me understand and appreciate them more.  It presented lots of interesting facts in a fun way.
  • MESMERIZED by Mara Rockliff is a beautiful book that tells the story of Benjamin Franklin using the scientific method to prove Dr. Mesmer was a fraud.
  • SUNNY SIDE UP by Jennifer Holm is a great graphic novel about family and friendship.  It’s fun and funny but has a serious message.

2015 favorites 4

  • BROWN GIRL DREAMING by Jacqueline Woodson is an incredibly moving memoir written in verse.  This book deserves every award it’s won.
  • COUNTING LIONS by Katie Cotton is a gorgeous picture book that combines numbers with endangered animals.
  • EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING by Nicola Yoon is the story of a girl in a bubble who is happy with her life until a certain boy comes into it.  I fell in love with the story and the characters.

I still need to read Everything Everything — it’s on so many people’s list of favorites. Maybe I’ll get to it this month. 🙂

I feel so out of the book loop. I don’t even know what the great titles of 2015 were so it is nice to see posts like this where I can see what I missed.

On occasion I will read a middle-grade or YA, but don’t have much motivation or cause to read children’s books (at least until my son’s picture book comes out in June!). But I think it’s very cool that you read these as well as well as the usual stuff.

Brown Girl Dreaming sounds good, I will have to look at the age, starting to think what I can read with my daughter for both of us. I am going to start with Secret Garden. I think I am going to read Everything Everything this year also.

A great list Kathy. I’m sorry I’ve only read one of these books. I going to take your list to the library. I did thoroughly enjoy Brown Girl Dreaming. It was one of my top ten books of 2015 too.

I’m using this list to get books for KitKat from the library! See that more grown-up nickname…she’s nearly 5 now. I cannot be calling her wiggles.

Gage and I both loved I Don’t Like Snakes! He went through a short snakes phase, but they always end when he realize he loves trains more 🙂
