Review: The Time Garden

November 5, 2015

The Time Garden

I’m sure most people are aware that a lot of adults are turning to an old childhood pastime to de-stress.  Coloring for adults is in and adult coloring books are topping bestseller lists.  Adult coloring books are much more detailed and on better quality paper than the ones we all remember from our childhood.

The Time Garden by Daria Song is just gorgeous and can be colored with colored pencils or markers.  It’s illustrations tell the story of a little girl who’s fascinated by a cuckoo clock her father brings home.  When she inspects it, she discovers a fairy who transforms her house into something magical.

This coloring book has a variety of pages – some more detailed than others.  The pages are glued like a traditional binding so you have to break the spine to get the book to lay flat – I think a spiral binding or pages that tear out would have been a nice feature but I’m sure that would have added to the cost.

I’ve tried my hand at coloring and, I’m afraid, I’m not that good at it although I do enjoy it.  I’ve recently discovered YouTube videos with tutorials, though, and can’t wait to try some techniques I’ve seen.  I plan to host a coloring party after the holidays and will definitely be using The Time Garden when I do.

When I sit in front of my recommending table on Sunday mornings at the bookstore, the rack next to me is full of coloring books. There are probably 2 dozen different ones. It seems to have become quite the craze. Although it’s not for me, I think it’s very cool.

Well I’ve been trying lanyard tutorials on youtube and I still can’t do it! Maybe I’d do better at a coloring tutorial….

A coloring party sounds like so much fun!
I don’t have this one though it does look gorgeous, but the spine comment is so true for so many of these books. I wish they made it easier to color all of the page.

I love these books, though I tend to color with my daughter these days more than anything. I had no idea that there was a YouTube series for techniques

I find it a little humorous that there are tutorials for this, but I’d probably need it.

I have read a lot lately about coloring books for adults, and meant to try one or two. Would love to do an activity like that with my little toddler, and goodness knows that I would enjoy zero stress from now on! 🙂
