Review: The Little Snowplow

October 9, 2015

The Little Snowplow

When the little snowplow joins the Mighty Mountain Road Crew, all the other trucks think he’s too small to do any heavy lifting.  He’s sure he can help, though, so he clears streams, cleans up after parades, and pushes leaves around to prepare himself for the next winter.  He feels ready to go and is looking forward to snow.

When the snow finally comes, it comes fast and furious and is too much for the little snowplow to handle alone so he has to call for help.  But when a boulder comes crashing down the mountain and buries another truck, the little snowplow is the only one who can get around the obstacle to save him.

The Little Snowplow by Lora Koehler is an adorable picture book about working hard and believing in yourself much like The Little Engine That Could.  It’s a great message, though, and one that kids can’t hear too often.  If this winter is anything like last year’s, many people will be able to relate to the little snowplow’s plight.

The little snowplow has a big heart that young readers will adore and Jake Parker‘s wonderful illustrations add a bit of whimsy to this delightful story.  This is a story you’ll want to share with the little ones in your life.

This sounds adorable! Our long-range winter forecast says not as much lake effect snow or arctic cold… fingers crossed they’re right.

I was thinking the exact same thing — that it sounded like THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD. I don’t even want to think about snow yet!

This sounds like a wonderful book, Kathy. I’ve tried to use the Little Engine That Could on my daughter more than once when she gets into her “I can’t!” mode. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn’t.
