With all the holiday stuff going on, there hasn’t been much reading happening here. I did find one word in a galley of The Story Hour by Thrity Umrigar. I thought I had a sense of the word’s meaning but I wasn’t sure so I looked it up and discovered the meaning is a little more complicated than I thought.
1. epigraph – “Epigraph to come.”
An epigraph is a short quotation or saying at the beginning of a book or chapter, intended to suggest its theme.

What words do you want to celebrate today?
Did not know that
Ive always loved a good epigraph. Happy Wednesday!
I didn’t realize that sometimes the epigraph is picked after the book is written! Thought it was always the inspiration for the book, so I guess I learned something, too!
Knew I had seen it many times. Thought I could define it. But I was wrong. Rats.
I’ve read several books this year that used epigraphs. I would’ve had to look it up to be certain of the definition though.
Like you, I thought I knew the meaning but didn’t.
Hmmm…at the end of the year…I am all worded out!
Kathy, that is a great word to know in this “biz”! Have a safe and happy New Year’s!
Didn’t know this word, Happy New Year!
Happy new year, Kathy! I think the word I’m celebrating today is “anticipation” 🙂
I think I’m exactly where you were. Thought I knew it but it’s a little more.
