Review: Sunny Sweet is So NOT Sorry

December 27, 2014

Sunny Sweet

When Masha Sweet wakes up with plastic flowers glued in her hair she knows her little sister, Sunny, who just happens to be a genius, must be behind it.  No one can figure out how to get the flowers out, so Masha’s mother puts a call into the pediatrician’s office and has Masha stay home while she heads to work.

Masha notices their beloved neighbor, Mrs. Song, lying in her driveway and calls an ambulance to help her.  In the meantime, Sunny has walked home, and the two girls ride to the hospital in the ambulance with Mrs. Song.  While they’re there, Sunny goes on rounds with some doctors while Masha tries to find someone to help her get the flowers out of her hair.  Along the way, Masha makes some friends who help her realize how lucky she is.

Sunny Sweet is So NOT Sorry by Jennifer Ann Mann is a cute book that is sure to appeal to young female readers, especially those with younger sisters!  Masha has moved with her mom and her sister after her parents’ divorce and is having a little trouble settling in so the last thing she wants to do is show up at school with flowers stuck in her hair and she can’t understand why Sunny’s not being punished.

I definitely had to suspend disbelief when the girls got to the hospital but young readers should enjoy their antics.  They’re funny, exciting, and heart-warming.  Sunny Sweet is So NOT Sorry is the first book in a series featuring Masha and Sunny – the third book comes out February 2015, so there’s plenty of time to catch up with the series.

Cute cover! Sounds like a cute book but I was wondering why Sunny was allowed to go on rounds with the doctor. I hope Masha found someone to help her get the flowers out of her hair.

This sounds like a cute book – but I would be so upset if my little sister glued flowers in my hair!

This does sound like a delightful book! I usually don’t have trouble suspending belief with books for very young readers. It’s the teen books I struggle with.

My boys love silly books like this but I don’t know if I want to give them the idea to glue things to each others hair. They’d totally do it! 🙂

This sounds cute. I’ll bet my four-year-old would like it.

I think I know what you mean, but kids seem to love books like this.
