Author event and giveaway: Erika Robuck

May 1, 2014

Erika Robuck

The lovely Erika Robuck stopped here for a Book Your Lunch event when she was touring for her latest book, Fallen Beauty.  Erika writes about famous females whose work she admires, and you only have to speak with her for a few minutes to realize she’s passionate about what she does.

Erika was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland and earned a degree in education with a minor in literature.  She’s married and has 3 boys, aged 11, 9, and 6.  Since she hadn’t published anything (not even a blog) she couldn’t find an agent and decided to self publish her first book.  She worked hard to promote it and, after it sold well, she received a publishing contract.  Fallen Beauty is her fourth book.

When it’s time to write a new book, Erika researchs her subject for about 6 months by visiting sites and reading.  It takes her about a year to write and edit each book, so she has a new book out about every year and a half.  She writes about famous people through the eyes of a fictional character.  Fallen Beauty is about Edna St. Vincent Millay, who was quite a character!  She grew up poor but cultured and ending up being part of the first wave of the Bohemian Greenwich Village crowd.  Her work was quite popular during her lifetime and garnered her a Pulitzer Prize for Poetry.

Erika’s next book will be a departure for her – not only is it about a man (Nathanial Hawthorne), but it’s told through the eyes of a real character, Hawthorne’s wife.

Fallen BeautyI got Erika to autograph a copy of Fallen Beauty for one lucky reader.  To enter to win an autographed copy of FALLEN BEAUTY, simply fill out the entry form.  Contest is open worldwide – one entry per person, please.  I will use random.org to determine the winner.Contest ends at midnight EDT Thursday, May 8, 2014.    Comments are welcome (and appreciated) but will not get you an entry in the contest.

Wow, I am amazed that she finds time to write with 3 small children. I will have to check out her work.

I haven’t read any of her books yet.Now that I know more of her I will. Edna St Vincent Millay was one of my favorite poets when I was in high school. It will be fun to read more about her.

Cool concept, but Edna and I are not friends. She was the bane of my college poetry class.
