Review: The Show Must Go On!

January 31, 2014

The Show Must Go On

Sir Sidney runs a wonderful circus and treats all of his animals and performers with respect.  He’s getting old and tired, though, so he advertises for a circus manager.  After interviewing several people, he settles on certified lion tamer Barnabas B. Brambles.  He hires Barnabas to manage the circus for one week – giving him complete responsibility and all the profits for the week.  Barnabas is delighted with the arrangement and sets out with one goal in mind – to make money.  He has plans to cut costs and increase performances and most of his plans backfire but, in the end, he learns a lot about himself before the week is over.

The Show Must Go On! by Kate Klise is an adorable book for middle grade readers.  It’s funny and has a great message about treating others with respect.  Young readers will love the characters, the puns, and the adorable illustrations by M. Sarah Klise.  The story is fast paced and there are illustrations on most pages to keep readers fully engaged.  This is the first book in the Three-Ring Rascals series and, after reading it, I’m looking forward to the next book.  Young readers are sure to enjoy The Show Must Go On!.

This looks like so much fun and something I need to have on tap for Greyson when he gets older. And of course, I could dip into it in the meantime. 🙂

Nice! I have been in the mood for circus type stuff lately… It’s weird because in ‘real’ life I would never actually go to a circus…

My son loves the 43 Old Cemetery Road books by the same author. I will have to look for this one.

I don’t care for circuses myself but Gage just saw Madagascar 3 yesterday and it’s about a circus. He’s now a fan, mainly because of the train they travel in 🙂
