At the movies: About Time

November 29, 2013

About Time

When he turns 21, Tim’s father informs him that the men in their family have the ability to time travel.  He explains how to do it and informs him of its limitations – Tim won’t be able to change history, he can only make changes in his own life.

Tim moves to London and longs to fall in love.  On a night out with a friend, he meets Mary and becomes smitten with her.  During their courtship, he learns to use his ability to his advantage.  Later, though, it forces him to choose between his past and his future.

I didn’t really know what to expect when I went to see About Time but I ended up being totally charmed by this movie.  I loved the mix of sentimentality and humor and admit to shedding some tears at the end.  The movie is long – just over two hours – but I was never bored.

The story line was sweet and made me think about the important things in life.  I thought the casting was terrific and thought Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams had great chemistry.  The movie is rated R so it’s not for the whole family.

By the way, Gale had a completely different opinion than I did.

I totally agree with you. I gave it a 3.5 out of 4 and was also totally charmed. The best part it is that I didn’t know a single about the movie. This one, I think, works better that way.

This sounds like fun. I rarely go to the theater unless the movie has lots of special effects but I’d definitely rent this one on DVD.

I want to see this! I think your R rating must mean something different to Australia…at least I hope 😉

I (and Jason, especially) love Rachel McAdams, but the whole time travel aspect had me thinking it was another Time Traveler’s Wife by her.
