Kid Konnection: Open This Little Book

March 30, 2013

Open This Little Book

If you’ve got a little one who’s just starting to sit still for stories, you’ll want to get your hands on Open This Little Book by Jesse Klausmeier.  It’s a charming story with a unique feature – the pages inside get smaller and smaller until they reach the middle when they start to get bigger again.  The story reminds me of Russian stacking dolls; a ladybug reads a book about a frog who is reading a book about a rabbit, etc, until you get to a giant who can’t turn the pages of his book because his fingers are too big for the tiny pages.  Luckily, his friends help him out.

Besides friendship, the book explores colors, animals, and size comparisons.  Children will delight in discovering smaller and smaller pages in the book.  Suzy Lee‘s beautiful, full color illustrations add a retro feel to this book that little ones are sure to want to read over and over again.
