Saturday Snapshot

November 17, 2012

I recently went to the beach with my mother and my sister and had a fabulous time.  I walked right by this bird and he didn’t seem to mind me being there at all.  I didn’t have my camera with me but I managed to snap this photo with my phone.

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books.  It’s easy to participate – just post a picture that was taken by you, a friend, or a family member and add your link on Alyce’s site.

I can never capture great shots with my phone! Perhaps I need a new one…lol

    Thanks for sharing….

I’ll bet he was convinced you couldn’t see him. That’s what they do for concealment.

Thanks for sharing. My phone doesn’t do so well. Could it be “operator error”?? LOL

What a pretty shot. Love all the texture and the tree reflected in the water. The bird looks pleased to have your company.

An egret or heron, I think? Love it – we have lots of them around here, too.

    Enjoy your weekend!

He is so cool! Great photo with your phone!!

Your bird is a Great Blue Heron. (And your phone takes great pictures!) Most of our herons have migrated south for the winter although I did see a stray at the river this morning. Did you get to see him fly?

We love to look at the birds like this around our neighborhood lake. They don’t stay very long though once they realize we’re watching 🙂

Beautiful! I love these type of birds.

Great shot! Birds are always posing for me, some walk right up to me. I think I’ve only taken 2 photos with my phone. It’d take me a while to figure out how to do it.

  16. November 17, 2012 5:28 pm

Nice picture! I wonder what kind of bird is that?

  17. November 17, 2012 5:56 pm

Great picture! He looks far too lordly to be bothered by some human wandering up…

  18. November 17, 2012 5:57 pm

Who needs a camera when you can take pictures like this with your phone?! Beautiful snapshot!

I guess he’s used to people on the beach.

Just stopped by to check on what’s new. I have to have that “Where’d You Go Bernadette” novel!!! Sounds so good. I hear it’s a comedy. I’m reading “The Nutcracker” and agree with you on many parts. :] Thanks for stopping by my blog, Kathy. Hugs…

Such grace and elegance. The heron is a lovely sight – well spotted.

Very nice photo with your phone! Someday I’m going to have to get a smartphone with a decent camera. Mine is so old it’s not even worth taking a photo.

I find that when I do have my real camera though, birds fly away. It’s the Murphy’s Law of bird photography. 🙂 So you were really lucky.

I tried taking photos of a heron by the river, but they were very blurred. Your picture is lovely. My Snapshot is at

Nice. How great that he didn’t mind getting his picture taken.

  27. November 18, 2012 7:09 am

I guess you didn’t seem threatening or look like a fish!

  28. November 18, 2012 2:54 pm

Great shot Kathy. Sorry, I haven’t had time to visit favorite blogs or post much; forgive me. Hope Things have been going well for you.

    Lovely shot!

I love great blue herons! How lucky to capture this so well with your phone. Anymore, phone cameras are just as good as point-and-shoot cameras, aren’t they? Glad you had a good trip to the beach. I’m overdue for visit and long to get my toes in the surf & sand!

  31. November 19, 2012 10:06 am

What a cool bird! I’m jealous of your nice weather with all the snow we’ve got. Lol.

  32. November 19, 2012 9:17 pm

He looks just like a snake bird that I saw today on a boat tour. They swim with their whole bodies under the water, and just the head and neck peek out of the surface. They were very cool!

  33. November 23, 2012 9:34 pm

I always love to see herons. We have an Australian one that is quite similar to yours. You took a great picture on your phone, my old phone isn’t that great for photos, one day I’ll update and be able to take nice photos on a phone like you do.
