Review: The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories

December 22, 2011

Joseph Gordon-Levitt founded hitRECord, an open, collaborative website that joins musicians, authors, illustrators, and other artistic people in the creative process.  It’s a flourishing community and Gordon-Levitt recently had the tough task of going through over 8,500 contributions to chose the stories and art that became The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories.  Small in size (about 6¼ x 4¼ and 83 pages long), but big in heart, this book is quite charming – even the endpapers are gorgeous.

Each page spread contains at least one illustrated story.  Most of the stories are one or two sentences long, so the book can be read very quickly, but I don’t think that’s the best approach.  I think it’s best to read a story or two and then think about their messages.   This is a book that can be enjoyed by teens and adults alike and it might even spark a little discussion.

I first became aware of this book when Vance shared this video with me:

I’m really excited to see that two  more volumes will be published in the future.  If you’re looking for a last minute gift or stocking stuffer, you really can’t go wrong with The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories – both book lovers and art lovers are sure to enjoy this delightful book!
