Giveaway: Beauty Queens

June 9, 2011

Thanks to the fine folks at Scholastic, I have two copies of Beauty Queens, by Libba Bray to give away.  I keep hearing great things about this book.  Here’s a little about it:

The fifty contestants in the Miss Teen Dream Pageant thought this was going to be a fun trip to the beach, where they could parade in their state-appropriate costumes and complete in front of the cameras. But sadly, their airplane had another idea, crashing on a desert island and leaving the survivors stranded with little food, little water, and practically no eye liner.

What’s a beauty queen to do? Continue to practice for the talent portion of the program – or wrestle snakes to the ground? Get a perfect tan – or learn to run wild? And what should happen when the sexy pirates show up?

Welcome to the heart of non-exfoliated darkness. Your tour guide? None other than Libba Bray, the hilarious, sensational, Printz Award-winning author of A Great and Terrible Beauty and Going Bovine. The result is a novel that will make you laugh, make you think, and make you never see beauty the same way again.

This is Teen is also sponsoring a great contest for young writers between the ages of 13 and 18, that sounds like a lot of fun.  Be sure to check it out if you know any aspiring young writers.

To enter to win BEAUTY QUEENS by Libba Bray, simply fill out the entry form.  Contest is open for those with a US mailing address only.  I will use random.org to determine the winner. Contest ends at midnight EST Sunday, July 3, 2011.   Winners will be announced on Monday, July 4, 2011.  Comments are welcome (and appreciated) but will not get you an entry in the contest.

I read a little bit about “Beauty Queens” the other day. I wanted to think about it. I feel really badly about the airplane crash. Sad. I’m quickly picked up by seeing there are “sexy pirates.” That makes everything that’s happened to them have a silver lining. I would like to read this one. Will fill out form. Then, cross my feet and fingers.

I’ve changed a little bit. A funny look comes over my face when checking out a giveaway. I’m thinking. I don’t want to sign up for a giveaway unless the book is really one I want to read. The fun is in the reading not in the winning. So, first I think a minute if the book is not familiar to me. That’s what I had to do with this one. Then, there are the books you know from the get go I want it, I need it, I have to have it because you’ve heard so much about the title. Hope this makes sense.

After my book problem post I usually hold off on acquiring new books for awhile, but I saw this reviewed in Entertainment Weekly and added it to my wish list. Thank for the giveaway 🙂
