Author event and giveaway: Karen White and Wendy Wax

May 29, 2011

If you know how much I love attending Book Your Lunch events, then you can imagine how excited I was when I discovered that the latest lunch was featuring two authors – Wendy Wax and Karen White.   These ladies came from different cities and showed up in coordinating outfits!

Karen and Wendy have been friends and critique partners for years.  They exchange their work in progress one chapter at a time.  They’re not looking for the work to be edited, but rather to be checked to see that the story flows and makes sense.  They generally don’t read each other’s work once it’s complete and published.

Karen writes two books a year and Wendy writes one.  Karen’s newest book is The Beach Trees and Wendy’s is Ten Beach Road.  Karen shared the cover of The Strangers on Montagu Street, the last book in the Tradd Street series (which comes out in November) with us.

It was so much fun listening to Wendy and Karen!  It was obvious they love what they do and appreciate their fans.  They’re both very down to Earth and loads of fun!  I got each one of them to autograph a copy of their newest novel for a lucky reader.   I’ve separated the contests, but do feel free to enter both!

To enter to win an autographed copy of THE BEACH TREES by Karen White , and/or TEN BEACH ROAD by Wendy Wax simply fill out the appropriate entry form.  Contests are open worldwide.  I will use to determine the winners. Contests end at midnight EST Monday, June 6, 2011.   Winners will be announced on Tuesday, June 7, 2011.  Comments are welcome (and appreciated) but will not get you an entry in the contest.

Sounds like the two have a great relationship!

  3. May 29, 2011 7:12 am

I would think it’s rare for two authors to be able to share their newly written chapters together. I believe these two ladies really respect and like one another a great deal. I might say they have a friendship.:) Unbelievable, almost dressed alike for the event. Fun.

    Thanks so much,

First of all, how fun to get to see both of these authors at once. I know that was great! I went to the website of the lunches and I think that is a great way to get to see authors up close and listen to them speak, get signed books, etc. Wish we had something similar. I know you must enjoy that so much!

I can’t imagine how totally cool it was to have both of them in one place. I’ve met Karen so I know how adorable and gracious she is, and based on your stories of your last interaction with Wendy I know she is too. You get the best authors in there for this event. I want to be you when I grow up!

What a fantastic author event. I enjoy both authors’ books and already read Ten Beach Road which made me want to sit on the beach with a beverage and watch the sun set. Thanks for the giveaway!

Karen White is just such an amazing woman, and I have really loved reading her books in the past. It is so great that Wendy Wax was there too! I just love reading about these Book Your Lunch events, and am so envious that you have such a great reading community so close to home!

You are sooo lucky to have this program in your area! Mary Alice Monroe will be on Hiltion Head tomorrow but I am not sure I want to fight the traffic to drive over! So I guess that makes you lucky and me lazy!

Very excited for the fourth Tradd street book to come out – wonder of that is the last one?

I love these Book Your Lunch events because you introduce me to authors I end up wanting to read. I miss the ocean so much and the one time we vacationed on the Gulf, I fell in love with it too. Have entered the two contests. I enjoy HDTV too so I can see what Wendy is talking about.

You must live in a perfect location to be able to attend these great author events! I quickly became a Karen White fan. I have not read Wendy’s books yet.

  20. May 29, 2011 4:04 pm

I have read both books, so I am not entering. I wanted to say how envious I am that you were able to hear two wonderful authors at once!

  21. May 29, 2011 4:20 pm

I’m sure Karen White is just as I would expect her to be. I’m so jealous you got to meet her in person. Funny that both authors have books with “beach” in them.

  22. May 29, 2011 6:34 pm

What a great event and one that authors respect each other and actually liaise at times. Wonderful. I have Karen White’s first in the series, I need to get to it so I can start before another in the series is released.

Hi Kathy, You are so lucky to get such a assortment of authors to come down your way. It must be a very popular book store that sponsors these lunches.
