Kid Konnection: Big Nate Strikes Again

Nate Wright is just an average sixth-grade boy.  Some of the things he can’t stand are egg salad, math, being sick during the weekend and Gina.  Lately, though, it seems that his life is being plagued by Gina.  Not only have they been assigned to work on a project together, but she’s been put on the fleeceball team he’s the captain of.  What’s a guy to do when he has to put up with a nuisance like her?  On top of all the other stuff he has to contend with, Nate has to figure out how to handle Gina.

I absolutely adored Big Nate Strikes Again by Lincoln Peirce!  This book is kind of a cross between a middle grade reader and a graphic novel and it is so much fun.  I think it will have broad appeal – it will appeal to all middle grade readers, reluctant male readers and adults as well.  Anyone who can remember what it’s like to be a kid will laugh out loud at some of the predicaments poor Nate winds up in.

Nate is just a typical middle school boy.  He’s not all that interested in school, he’s beginning to like girls and he loves to hang out with his friends.  No matter how hard he tries, though, sometimes it just seems like nothing goes his way.  It was so much fun watching him trying to figure everything out.

This book is clever in so many ways.  It is a cute story that lots of kids and adults will relate to that includes wonderful illustrations as well as lists and drawings by Nate himself.  The humor in this book isn’t just for kids, either – much of it will appeal to adults – at least it did to this adult!  This is the second book in the Big Nate series, but it stands alone perfectly.   Big Nate Strikes Again is recommended for ages 8 through 12 – I suggest you buy it for a youngster in your life, but make sure you read it too!

Lincoln Pierce is the creator of the comic strip Big Nate, which runs in 200 newspapers – unfortunately our local paper is not one of them, because I am definitely a fan now.

My kids are still a little too young for this but it sounds like a good series. I should start introducing them to comics, though.

This sounds like such a cute and fun book! I loved Diaries of a Wimpy Kid, so I’m thinking this will be a perfect one to read next!

The cover itself is too cute for words.

Going to look up the Nate series and see if my little one will enjoy this too.
