Review: Undead and Unreturnable

October 17, 2009

Undead and Unreturnable

Betsy Taylor is the Queen of the Vampires.  Her sister is the daughter of Satan – literally – but the rebellious side of her has caused her to be good and devout.  Betsy lives in an old house with an assorted cast of characters including her fiance, who is a vampire and her best friend who isn’t.  Betsy’s planning her wedding and babysitting for her new little brother.  She’s also being visited by ghosts who have messages for friends and family they’ve left behind.  When she’s visited by the ghost of “The Driveway Killer’s” most recent victim, she and her friends try to solve the crime.

I listened to Undead and Unreturnable by MaryJanice Davidson on a recent trip to see my parents.  It is read by Nancy Wu and she had the perfect voice for a book like this.   Before listening to the book, I didn’t realize that it is the fourth in the Queen Betsy series.  Not being familiar with the series didn’t affect my enjoyment of this one at all.  Even though there wasn’t much to the mystery aspect of the book, I found it to be light, funny and just a little bit silly.  It was perfect for listening to in the car!  There is language and sexual situations in this book that may offend some readers.

I won this audio book in a blog contest .  I am an Amazon Associate.

Vampires rule the world these days. They are everywhere. I wonder if it was always like that or I’m just late noticing the trend

I haven’t read or listened to any books of this type yet. Seems like they would be fun. I think I’m missing out!

Sounds like just the kind of book that makes for great listening. I’m going to have to, literally, check this series out the next time I’m at the library.

Looks good, though I would want to read it, not listen to the audio. I haven’t got into the audio versions yet.

    Great post!

I’m a bit behind with this series. The last one I read was Undead and Uneasy in 2007. I’ve been thinking of re-reading all the earlier ones and then getting caught up lately… Of course this time I’m going to make sure to find those short stories in anthologies that tie into the books because it left me really confused a time or two.

I’ve tried to get into audio books but my concentration level will just not let me focus!! Sounds like a fun one though 🙂

Agree that the Queen Betsy books are very light, funny, and a bit silly! Think that’s why I like them so much. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it! You should definitely check out the rest of the series, as I think they’re all good!

It sounds like a great car book to listen too. I like that even though you jumped into the series without knowing it, it didn’t throw you! 🙂

You really need to go back and listen from the beginning. I’ve listened to the first two and I swear they are laugh out loud funny in parts. I’ll have to catch up with the series.

I’ve been following this series from the beginning although I haven’t read the latest one yet. They are fun. I should get the latest one on audio -they would be great to listen to.

You lost me with vampires and daughter of Satan.
Glad it was a fun audio for your trip.

I see this is one of the books in The Undead and Unwed series, and I am glad you liked it. I have been looking at those books for awhile, and thinking they look like great escapist reads. Glad to know that as the series progresses they are still good and going strong!

I was quite into vampires a while ago but it seems now that my reading preference have changed a bit. This sounds like fun, though. 🙂

This caught my eye because a few years ago I found a series about a “demon-hunter soccer mom” entitled Carpe Demon and it was fun to listen to in the car.

I occasionally need an audiobook to take my mind off of things!
