Guest Post: Blog Talk Radio

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I love Blog Talk Radio.  (I even have it programmed in my cell phone.)  I just wish more people would participate because the author interviews are so much better when there are lots of people involved.  I love it when we get a lively discussion going in the chat room – those discussions usually generate some great questions.  I want to emphasize that I have never seen an author in a chat room, and I really doubt a publisher would allow that.  It occurred to me that some people might not participate in BTR shows because they didn’t really understand them, so I asked the folks there to explain it.  Christine, the Director of Customer Relations wrote this for me:

BlogTalkRadio is the largest and fastest growing social radio network on the Internet.  Our unique technology allows anyone, anywhere the ability to listen to a live, Internet Talk Radio show, simply by using a computer.  Listening to your favorite BlogTalkRadio shows is very easy.  Simply register as a listener on www.BlogTalkRadio.com to create your own account.  You can register for a free listener account by clicking the “Register” button near the top right of any page on our site.

After registration, you can enjoy chatting with other listeners during the live show.  If you will be away from your computer when the show is live, you can either call-in and listen live on the telephone (you can find this number by going to xxx [insert URL where number is displayed]), or you can listen to the archived version online, which is typically available within a matter of minutes after the show has ended.

To learn more about BlogTalkRadio, visit www.BlogTalkRadio.com.  Make sure to also visit our Learning Center (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/FAQ.aspx) where we have screencast tutorials and FAQ’s on everything you need to know to get started.  We also have information in our Learning Center on how to become a host on BlogTalkRadio for free, with your very own radio show.

We hope you’ll join the conversation at BlogTalkRadio.  Feel free to contact us at anytime if there’s anything we can do to help.

Here are some upcoming shows I plan to listen to (click on the author’s name to go to the correct BTR page):

There’s also a fun “What do you do?” series coming up that features several Hachette employees.  I hope to see you in the chat room!  I’m bermudaonion, of course!

I so enjoyed listening to the recording of Ted Dekker’s interview! I will very hard to remember to tune in next Wednesday evening as I would love to hear Brunonia Barry.

    Thanks for the reminder!

I second Kathy’s view! I love Blog Talk Radio and I’d love to see more participation from bloggers. We have such a great time!

I was in the chat with you for the Hachette blog and I was a little disappointed. If they are going to use BTR to do them live, they should at least have a chance for Q & A. I thought she was interesting enough, but I would have loved to have asked a question!

Thanks for this information Kathy! I have went and listened in once for Joy Preble. I did not know you all the different ways you could listen to it. I am going to have to go and check it out more carefully. 🙂

Great post Kathy! I love Blog Talk Radio too and they had more evening programs I would be there. Unfortunately since I work, I can’t be in on the day programs, which I hate. I’m glad to see those two that are in the 7 pm area; I might can do those! I really want to be in on the Brunonia Barry one. I’ve read part of The Lace Reader (really need to get back to it) and was loving it!

Word! I love it when I have the opportunity to participate and the chat room is a ton of fun.

I love popping in when I can. I am usually working or otherwise busy when the shows are on, but I’ve been in the chat room a few times and love it.

I love Blog Talk Radio, too, Kathy! I listen to the interviews often, but can rarely call in, due to timing issues (kids!)

I cracked up about you having the number on your cell. Maybe I should call in from my car sitting (in the garage (and pretend I’ve run to the store) 🙂

    Hi Kathy,
I’ll be participating in the interview on the 21st with Brunonia Barry – it’ll be my first time with both an interview with an author AND BTR. I won the book through a drawing on book club girl’s blog 🙂

I haven’t dipped my toe in the BTR waters yet but this post certainly is helpful – thanks, Kathy!

Kathy please encourage publishers to schedule more evening shows. Many more bloggers might be inclined to participate who work. It’s very frustrating to always be left out. 😦

Thanks for clarifying exactly how this works. I have always wanted to participate but because of my crazy schedule (kids!) I have never attempted to. Your post here was informative and motivating.

kathy, great post! i stopped by on BTR show last month–my first–and it was great! maybe more people will stop by now that you’ve clearly explained it.

I just joined Blog Talk Radio last week. I love the interviews of books I have read or am going to read.
I have to check it out and find the chat room

    Enjoy a nice week-end

Thanks for this post Kathy. I’ve listened to a couple of random shows but have found that recordings are easier for me if I’m going to listen. Leaves out the interaction but what else can one do when I have kids running around the house. 🙂
