Review: The American Journey of Barack Obama

January 18, 2009

american-journey-of-barack-obama1The American Journey of Barack Obama by the Editors of Life is a beautiful coffee table book.  It tells the story of Barack Obama from birth through the Presidential race, but it was printed before Election Day.  This book doesn’t really introduce any new material but it does a nice job of presenting Barack’s history in a easily read, conversational tone.  As would be expected from Life, the book is filled with beautiful, full-color photographs, some of which were not previously published.

My favorite part of the book is the essays in the back from “12 fine thinkers and writers,” including Gay Talese and Andrei Codresu.  These essays and the photographs make this book unique among the Barack Obama books.

Interesting. Too bad they didn’t wait until after the election and the inauguration; the book seems somewhat out of date already.

Look at smart Kathy reading this before Tuesday! I have it on my shelf and once the excitement is over I know it will be harder to get into.

I think this one sounds interesting, but it seems like more of a coffee table book.

This is a beautiful book and it is the perfect time to appreciate it. I am going to look through it again with my son with the inaugaration coming up. I’m sure that there will be many more books to follow!

This seems a fitting book to read and review this time of year. It sounds like a good tribute to Obama’s pre-Presidential life.

I’d love to be able to look through this eventually. I’ve seen many of the photos already thanks to bloggers and it seems like an interesting book!

I gave this one to my son for Christmas, since he was a big supporter of Obama.

I would like to read one that was put together post-election, that has his speech in it 🙂

I just love Life books and this one is great. I have not read the essays yet, but it is on the to-do list.
