Review: Testimony

September 14, 2008

Testimony by Anita Shreve is a gripping tale that explores the way that so many lives can be changed by one simple action. The University of Vermont is doing research on adolescent males and alcohol, so they investigate a sex scandal that rocked a prep school and it’s surrounding community two years previous. The University conducts interviews with as many of the involved people as possible, so the story is told from many different perspectives. The deeper they delve, the more the reader learns about the events that led up to the unfortunate incident.

Once I started this powerful book, I didn’t want to put it down. It really made me think about the way that one poor decision can affect so many different lives. This book may well be Anita Shreve’s best effort to date. It will be released by Hachette Books on October 21.

“Powerful” I totally agree with that. This is the best Shreve book I’ve read so far.

I am happy to hear that Testimony was a good one. I have it sitting by. I used to read all her books. I read Weight of Water, Resistance, and several others and then I stopped because it seemed like the same thing. I can’t wait to read Testimony. Thanks for the review.

I haven’t read anything by Anita Shreve before this other than Body Surfing and The Pilot’s Wife, both of which I just thought were okay. I feel like this book is on an entirely different level.
