Review: Jessica Finch in Pig Trouble

June 14, 2014

Jessica Finch in Pig Trouble

Jessica Finch loves pigs.  All she wants for her upcoming birthday is a pet pig.

If she had a pig, they would read books together. And ride bikes. And have sleepovers.

Jessica can’t want to find out if she’s getting a potbellied pig so she enlists her friend Judy Moody to help her do a little snooping.  While they’re looking for Jessica’s gift, they find a Pig Out game and decide to check it out.  When Jessica goes to put it back later, she sees that a piece is missing and heads to Judy’s to see if she has it.  She finds Judy in a “T. P. Club” tent but Judy won’t let her in because it’s for members only.   Jessica gets mad and leaves in a huff.  When her birthday finally rolls around she finds out what Judy was up to and just how good a friend she is.

Jessica Finch in Pig Trouble by Megan McDonald is part of the Judy Moody and Friends series and it is just adorable!  It has a great story, great characters, and fabulous color illustrations by Erwin Madrid.  Readers familiar with Judy Moody will love seeing her pop up in this book about friendship and loyalty.

I’ve heard a lot about Judy Moody but this was my first experience with the series.  I can certainly see why it’s so popular.  The characters are realistic so kids will be able to relate to them.  I think Jessica Finch in Pig Trouble is perfect for early readers but don’t be surprised if they want a pig after they read it.

Meagan McDonald is an author I haven’t heard of, but love the sound of this book so I’ll be checking them out. I bet I know some little ones who would love it.

This sounds so cute! I’m not sure I’d want a pig sleepover.

If there is a possibility that a book will have Gage begging for a beg I think it’s best we skip it!
