Author event and giveaway: Mary Ellen Taylor

March 19, 2013

Mary Ellen Taylor

Fiction Addiction recently held a book signing and recipe swap for Mary Ellen Taylor, and it was so much fun!  Mary bakes a lot and her newest book is The Union Street Bakery so having a recipe swap just made sense.

Mary is the author of several series of books in different genres and also writes under the name of Mary BurtonThe Union Street Bakery is her first book using her “new” name.  Since it’s so different from the rest of her books, she decided she needed to use a different name.

The Union Street Bakery is Mary’s 25th book and is the story of Daisy, woman who was adopted as a baby but never quite felt like a part of the family.  After she grows up, she leaves home and has little to do with her family.  When her life falls apart so she heads home only to discover her family needs her to get their bakery back on it’s feet.  A customer leaves her the diary of a young slave girl causing Daisy to become curious about the past and learn about herself.

The book wasn’t intended to be a series but Mary had another idea so Sweet Expectations will be published in November.  She already has an idea for the third book in the series.  It sounds like readers have a lot to look forward to!

Mary has a degree in English and sold her first book in 1999 and hasn’t looked back since.  She is currently at work on her 29th book!  She writes at least 6 to 7 hours a day and will write up to 10 hours a day when on deadline.  At one point last year, she was working on two different books – one in the morning and the other in the afternoon – but she doesn’t recommend doing that.  If you include events and social media, Mary works 7 days a week.

She says she doesn’t get out much, but Mary goes to the gym every day and is the President of the Sisters in Crime Chapter of Central Virginia.  She is one busy lady!

The Union Street Bakery giveawayI got Mary to autograph a copy of THE UNION STREET BAKERY for one lucky reader and she added a great apron to the giveaway  To enter to win an autographed copy of THE UNION STREET BAKERY, by Mary Ellen Taylor, plus an apron, simply fill out the entry form.  Contest is open worldwide – one entry per person, please.  I will use random.org to determine the winner. Holy moly, I’d guess she works 7 days a week. Girlfriend needs to take a vacation, get a massage or something! That is a woman with a gift and a mission. The book sounds fabulous.

I wonder if I could impose on you to list her other titles, as when I did a search there are quite a few Mary Burtons.

Foodie books are some of my favorites so this one is definitely going on the list. She does indeed sound like a rather busy lady, and I can’t even imagine writing for 7 to 10 hours a day! That sounds like extreme dedication!

Just reading about her schedule made me tired. But it might also have something to do wit the 5+ hours of sleep I got last night :(

    Sounds like a fun event!
I’ve never understood the idea that an author needs to use different names for different genres–unless they write both kids/ya books and adult books that would be inappropriate for kids. Then it makes sense to me.
