Author event and giveaway: Mary Ellen Taylor
Fiction Addiction recently held a book signing and recipe swap for Mary Ellen Taylor, and it was so much fun! Mary bakes a lot and her newest book is The Union Street Bakery so having a recipe swap just made sense.
Mary is the author of several series of books in different genres and also writes under the name of Mary Burton. The Union Street Bakery is her first book using her “new” name. Since it’s so different from the rest of her books, she decided she needed to use a different name.
The Union Street Bakery is Mary’s 25th book and is the story of Daisy, woman who was adopted as a baby but never quite felt like a part of the family. After she grows up, she leaves home and has little to do with her family. When her life falls apart so she heads home only to discover her family needs her to get their bakery back on it’s feet. A customer leaves her the diary of a young slave girl causing Daisy to become curious about the past and learn about herself.
The book wasn’t intended to be a series but Mary had another idea so Sweet Expectations will be published in November. She already has an idea for the third book in the series. It sounds like readers have a lot to look forward to!
Mary has a degree in English and sold her first book in 1999 and hasn’t looked back since. She is currently at work on her 29th book! She writes at least 6 to 7 hours a day and will write up to 10 hours a day when on deadline. At one point last year, she was working on two different books – one in the morning and the other in the afternoon – but she doesn’t recommend doing that. If you include events and social media, Mary works 7 days a week.
She says she doesn’t get out much, but Mary goes to the gym every day and is the President of the Sisters in Crime Chapter of Central Virginia. She is one busy lady!
