Kid Konnection: Lenore Appelhans event and giveaway
I was very excited when my friend, and fellow blogger, Lenore Appelhans‘ book, LEVEL 2, was published and I was determined to see her while she was on her book tour – luckily, she came pretty close to me. She made a stop at Malaprop’s and had an event with four other YA authors:
- Beth Revis, author of SHADES OF EARTH
- Meagan Spooner, author of SKYLARK
- Victoria Schwab, author of THE ARCHIVED
- Megan Shepherd, author of THE MADMAN’S DAUGHTER
I was happy to see there was a good crowd in attendance and that several bloggers had traveled pretty far to see these authors. While all of the authors were interesting, I was there primarily to see Lenore, so I will focus on her in this post. (Besides, this would be way too long if I wrote about all five of the authors.)
Lenore’s grandmother was into astrology and had Lenore’s chart done when she was 10 years old. Her chart revealed that she would be a writer, so it seems it was destined to be! Lenore studied journalism and is an advertising copywriter. She and her illustrator husband live in Germany – they have started writing and illustrating children’s books. Their first collaboration, CHICK-O-SAURAS REX will be published in July.
Before she wrote LEVEL 2, Lenore researched afterlife visions, mythology, and religions. Her architect brother-in-law built her a cross-section of a “hive” so she could visualize it better as she wrote. She loves twists and originally put a lot of them into the book – her editor suggested she save some of them for the next two books in the trilogy, so she edited some of them out. Lenore hates cliffhanger endings and fought to keep LEVEL 2 from having one.
I got Lenore to autograph a copy of LEVEL 2 for one lucky reader and she added a great totebag to the giveaway To enter to win an autographed copy of LEVEL 2, by Lenore Appelhans, plus a tote bag, simply fill out the entry form. Contest is open worldwide – one entry per person, please. I will use random.org to determine the winner. Contest ends at midnight EDT Thursday, February 28, 2013. Comments are welcome (and appreciated) but will not get you an entry in the contest.
For more children’s books reviews, go to Booking Mama’s feature, Kid Konnection. If you’d like to participate in Kid Konnection and share a post about anything related to children’s books (picture, middle grade, or young adult) from the past week, leave a comment as well as a link on her site.

Fun YA book event! What a great group of authors. Glad you could be there to support Lenore – love the picture of her posing with her book.
