At the movies: Silver Linings Playbook
Pat’s (Bradley Cooper) mother springs him from a mental institution after the minimum eight months the court ordered. His first order of business is to get back with his wife, who has a restraining order against him. An old friend tries to help Pat out and introduces him to his wife’s sister, Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a woman who has issues of her own. Tiffany agrees to slip Pat’s wife a letter if he’ll be in a dance competition with her. The rehearsal and competition prove to be healing for the two of them and their families.
When I first saw the trailer for Silver Linings Playbook, I felt it would either be great or full of cliches. Luckily, it turned out to be the former! I loved this movie and can understand why it got so many Oscar nominations. I’m not sure it’s the best movie of the year but it was certainly filled with outstanding acting. I was riveted to the movie from beginning to end and even shed a tear or two before it was over. I rarely watch movies more than once, but I would gladly see this one again just to focus on some of the details and subplots I may have missed the first time around. I think this movie will appeal to women more than men but I do think the men who see it will enjoy it.
Silver Linings Playbook is a movie you’ll want to see in the theater. I really want to read the book now – has anyone read it?

This movie wasn’t even on my radar until recently – now that you liked it so much, I’ll have to see it when it comes out here!
I am so excited to hear that you loved it. I have really been considering going to see this one in the theater but going to the movies is a big event for John and I since it involves a babysitter and careful planning so I always want to make sure the movie we see if worth it! I also want to read the book…I usually try to read books before I see the movie but I might have to make an exception for this one.

I’ve heard such good things about this movie – glad to see you agree.
I thought this movie would be a true chick-flick, but after hearing from friends and now reading your review I’m inclined to see this movie.
I loved it also!
The title of this one means so little to me that it’s hard to keep it in mind, but I definitely will now!
It has been on my radar to see, but prioritized below all the other good ones. I’m hoping to get to see it before it leaves the theaters.
Al and I went to this one last night. The beginning felt slow to me (not sure why) but once it took off – WOW! I will have to see it again for sure. I loved the movie once I got into it.
I have this silly personal law that says I can’t see any movies until I read the books…I’m ordering this book this afternoon because the trailer looks fantastic!! Thanks for sharing!
I really enjoyed this movie (as a big J.Law and Eagles fan) and can’t wait to watch it again once it’s out on DVD. I did not read the book but my mom tried and wasn’t able to finish-she much preferred the movie.
I’ve heard the book is awesome too. I’m thinking of getting it on audio. So glad to hear you dug the movie.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I just saw a preview for this and thought it looked like it had potential (especially with all the oscar nominations) and now you’ve confirmed it. Thank you!
I never heard of it but it looks really good- so now I do want to see it- and read the book too, of course!
I loooved the book and hope to see the movie soon!
I’ve been wanting to see this one…I’m a sucker for movies (or books) about mental illness.
I watched it and it was ok
I saw this a couple weeks ago and LOVED it. Lawrence was incredible and I forgot that BRadley COoper is way more than a pretty face.
I loved this movie too and am itching to see it again. I haven’t read the book yet, but I’ve been eyeing it. So glad you liked the movie too!
I haven’t read the book. Thanks for the review, now I know I want to see the movie too!
I hadn’t heard of it until about a week ago when I started seeing some posts on blogs. Glad you enjoyed it!
My oldest loved it and cried!! Marc and I are going to go see it this week!!
I love Brad Cooper so that’s one more reason I need to watch this movie!
I would marry Bradley Cooper in a heartbeat so this is one I’m definitely going to be watching! So glad to hear it’s worth the time and money!
I agree … I think men would enjoy it too even though it is a “talky” movie. Glad you liked it. I’m dying to read the book as well.
Loved the movie trailer! I really want to see this movie–great actors (male and female). Thanks for posting this, Kathy.
OMG…my husband and I saw this today and we both LOVED it. I just ordered the soundtrack as I enjoyed all of the music.
I’d like to see the movie and read the book. I’ve read some of the author’s other books and I love his writing and characters.
I’m hoping to go see it, it looks great
I swear to you the first thing I say to people these days is – go see SLP! Such a great film and I can’t wait to read the book which I immediately bought but haven’t started yet.
I have a few friends who loved the book. I am hoping to read it myself soon and see which I prefer – always interesting when it it in the see-movie-read-book order.
Bradley Cooper is so adorable, I do want to see this.
I’m FINALLY going to see this one tomorrow
My husband and I saw this tonight and we both really liked it. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are going to be in another movie together but I can’t remember what the name is.
I loved this movie too – saw it with Trish (Hey Lady).
