Short Story Review: Beginning Again

If you’re like me and feel the need to read some of my friend Sarah Pekkanen‘s work from time to time, you’ll be happy know she has a new short story out – Beginning Again. One of the things that makes Pekkanen’s short stories so special is the fact that they feature characters that are familiar to her loyal fans.
Beginning Again features Ilsa’s (from Love, Accidentally) sister, Corrine. Ilsa is getting married and Corrine will be attending the wedding alone. Corrine thought she was happily married until her husband left to try to work things out with his first wife. Even though Corinne is thrilled for Ilsa, it’s tough being around all that happiness for the weekend. When Corrine returns home after the wedding, she realizes she needs to start all over and she does it in a surprising way!
Pekkanen has written another wonderful short story! One of the best part of Pekkanen’s stories are her fabulous characters and, once again, I hated to tell them good-bye when the story ended. Corrine was devastated that her marriage was over but was determined to get on with her life. I felt for her and admired her at the same time. Pekkanen writes with such heart, I felt like I was rooting for a friend.
If you’re a fan of Pekkanen’s you won’t want to miss this charming short story. If you’re not familiar with her work, it’s a great way to try it. Beginning Again is available as an ebook for 99 cents.

Would love to read her stories.
I love short stories and she a new-to-me author. I am going t obuy this eBook. This is why I love eBooks – there are so many authors whose books are not available easily – and eBooks lets people like us, access their work easily.
I’ve only read one of her books and enjoyed it. I like when authors have short stories published. I’ll have to check this out, though maybe I should read Love, Accidentally first?
Oh I loved this too. I need to write it up.
Oh, I don’t know her, yet but clearly, I need to. This looks totally delightful.
I have never read anything by Pekkanen…
I love the occasional short story. Will be reviewing more of them this year. It takes a certain frame of mind for me to get into them…. This author sounds very good.
I adore characters that are hard to say goodbye to when the book ends. Pekkanen sounds like a very talented author.
Oh thanks Kathy, I missed this one! I will look for it now!
I’ve read a few of her short stories, because of your reviews – so, I’ll definitely be reading this one. I also have one of her books – Skipping a Beat ( I think its called that). I really do enjoy her writing. Great post!
I’ve only read one of her books. I really need to try her others. I’ll keep the short story in mind as well.
Sounds good but I’m not sure about the cover. It makes me think of some Hollywood Socialite.
I am a big fan of this author!

This does sound good–and I could probably fit it in my crazy schedule!
I adored These Girls and have been wanting to read her other book, but this is a steal for the price, and I can’t wait to give it a try. I love Pekkanen, so this is great news for me. Thanks for sharing this, Kathy!!
Glad you enjoyed it and were able to revisit some of her characters.
So happy you enjoyed it Kathy! Thank you for this lovely review – and for all these kind comments. xoxo, Sarah
Thanks for sharing this. I haven’t heard of this author, but I love short stories and am on the lookout for new writers. The subject matter too is interesting: moving on in life after a relationship fails. There’s bound to be a bittersweet ache in you after reading that.
I absolutely love Sarah Pekkanen! Great to see that she has more work coming out, she is extremely talented. I remember bawling my eyes out when I read SKIPPING A BEAT.
I don’t usually read short stories and I don’t even know why! But I should make an exception in this case!
I’ve never read any of her stuff. Maybe this is a good way to give her a try!
I’ve only read one of her books and liked it a lot. I did get her newest to read next year. This one sounds great!
Thanks for featuring this book. I forgot I had it.
I’ll have to check out Pekkanen, I enjoy short stories
I do want to pick up The Opposite of Me and Pekkanen’s other books sometime, but this is a good and affordable collection to start with! Thanks for the rec.
I haven’t read any Pekkanen works and I know I need to read one of her books. Everyone’s been raving about her!
I feel like I have heard of this author before — but can’t remember where. Havent read her but she sounds good. Thanks. cheers.
