Saturday Snapshot
October 6, 2012
Since you’ve already seen several old photos of my family, I thought I’d feature one of Carl’s family today. This photo’s not dated, but I would guess it was taken in the early 1960′s. Carl is the child on the right. I don’t know why they were all so serious when it was taken.
Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books. It’s easy to participate – just post a picture that was taken by you, a friend, or a family member and add your link on Alyce’s site.

Oh that is great! Change up the people (but the expressions) and that could have been taken at my Aunts house in the same time period and I swear… the same couch! I love old pics…
Looks like a scene from my earlier life. I suspect they all look so serious because the parents had to chase the kids down for picture taking and uttered dire threats to get them to sit sill while Grandma fiddled with the camera.
That’s a classic. And definitely the early 60s. We have a few family photos just like that taken at Christmas by the grandparents.
It does look like they just found out that fun and smiling were outlawed!
Yes, definitely from the 60s….I do love looking at my old photos, too. Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.
This reminds me of old pics of my family when I was young, too!
This is a beautiful photo. I love the striped shirts!!
It looks like a scene from a classic TV show! Thanks for sharing.
It’s a great photo, and brings back memories of my brother and I sitting on the sofa for photos when we were children. My Snapshot is at http://goo.gl/ksE6O
That is definitely an iconic 60′s shot. I don’t know but I think I see a supressed smile on your husband’s face. I think he got into a little trouble with mom and dad and the serious faces on the adults are because of that.
Love it…I bet the person snapping the photo told them not to smile!
They do look terribly grim! And that couch somehow looks so sixties.
We have several pictures like this….usually because we’d already smiled for about five minutes while Dad was getting the focus “just right” or some such thing. About the time we got tired (and maybe a little grumpy), he’d take the picture. Maybe that’s what’s going on here.
Thanks for stopping by!
Adorable photo….Love it and the sixties hair styles and furniture.
The candy jar is a good indicator of the date as well.
THANKS.
I like how Carl has the slightest of grins on his face.
I have certain relatives who hate getting their photo taken, and they wear similar expressions when I corner them for photos.
FAB! I love old family pictures.
Maybe it was just an evening of chillin’! I love old photos.
Some old phots, are just that not too happy.
Awww, such a cute photo of Carl! The kids are adorable!
Carl looks kind of mischievious in this photo even if the photo is very serious. Here’s Mine
I love old photos!! This one is so very cool!
Fun family photo- it’s always interesting to wonder what was going on.
Your Carl was a cutie!
I always love looking at old family photos. Carl looks very studious!
He is adorable! I love that serious look. Makes him look very mature!
Great family shot.
I love old family photos. Thanks for sharing.
Carl’s mum has the same hairstyle as my mum! And eerily looks rather like her too – serious expression and all! I also love how parents find a style of clothing they like for their kids and simply buy bulk of it in various colours!
Are there other photos of them smiling? LOL!
We would die laughing if we tried to be serious in a picture like that. Although maybe not Elle–she hates smiling for pictures. I always have to catch her smiling…and not moving…which is rare. What a cute kiddo Carl was!
Love the matching yet not matching shirts!
Things sure have changed after just a few decades… yes, I think people are less ‘serious’ when in pictures nowadays. Smiling or not, this family photo is precious. Thanks for sharing.
