Saturday Snapshot

September 15, 2012
tags: ,

I was going through old pictures the other day and came across this photo I took at South Beach Marina in Hilton Head several years ago.  I really like the contrast of the bird and the building behind it.  I don’t know much about birds, but think this one’s a crow.

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books.  It’s easy to participate – just post a picture that was taken by you, a friend, or a family member and add your link on Alyce’s site.

IT REMINDS ME OF THE STAND!!!!

Interesting shot. It’s always a bit weird when big birds come to visit.

  3. September 15, 2012 7:00 am

That could be quite menacing – just as well there’s only one bird there!

  4. September 15, 2012 8:06 am

Birds, including crows, hawks, etc., all have a certain creep factor (to me) after some movies….lol

But yours is a wonderful shot!

    Here’s MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST

Looks very creepy just sitting there. Love the way he stands out against that color backdrop.

  6. September 15, 2012 8:20 am

It is indeed! And look at him watching you with that bright intelligent eye! I LOVE Corvids (the family of bird) – bright intelligent and highly developed socially within their flocks. I’ve always wished to find a small fledgling to raise as a companion. They are really remarkable!

  7. September 15, 2012 8:22 am

That is a really cool composition!

I’m not a big fan of birds, especially crows, so it’s a little creepy to me. Perfect for the fall though!

  9. September 15, 2012 9:09 am

Reminds me of Nevermore, Nevermore Poe’s poem. He looks majestic and inteliigent.

  10. September 15, 2012 9:46 am

Not a big fan of any type of animals. lol, but birds flying low always freak me out! ;)
    I do like the picture!

Its a cool pic. It looks like it could be a book cover and the space to the right could be the title… now what is the title… hmmmmm….. :)

  12. September 15, 2012 12:12 pm

I like Sheila (Book Journey)’s idea. Maybe you should submit it. I’m not creeped out by birds in general, but a murder of crows would make one think a little. And The Stand, just made that a little more creepy.

  13. September 15, 2012 12:48 pm

That crow does look ominous sitting there. Nicely art designed shot- you couldn’t have planned it better!

  14. September 15, 2012 12:51 pm

Looks like he’s up to no good. ;-)

Very cool! He almost doesn’t look real. Like he’s on a blue screen or something. Cool shot.

  16. September 15, 2012 1:29 pm

Yep, that totally creeps me out. NOT a fan of those black birds or crows or ravens or whatever they are.

  17. September 15, 2012 1:46 pm

Interesting shot … I like the colors, black against red. Thanks for sharing this one.

  18. September 15, 2012 1:49 pm

Well, there seems to be something buried deep in our psyche that doesn’t like crows! I think he (of she) is gorgeous… and just look at the detail on the claws… Thanks for caling at by blog.

No wonder birds appear so often in children’s books, as characters. This one looks like he has simply misplaced his suit-jacket somewhere.

  20. September 15, 2012 2:17 pm

Yup, it looks like a crow to me too!

I love birds, especially hawks, ravens, owls and crows. That’s a great shot of a crow. They are incredibly smart and oftentimes funny.

Was he quoting “Nevermore”? :-) Great picture!

  25. September 15, 2012 4:53 pm

Lovely photo! It brings to mind a word from WWW, “corvine”.

  26. September 15, 2012 5:52 pm

It looks like you’re so close to him. The contrast is nice. Here’s Mine

  27. September 15, 2012 6:14 pm

Great shot! I’ve always been a bit creeped out by black birds.

  28. September 15, 2012 7:22 pm

Great photo! It’s so simple but the colors and angles are so nice. It’s very striking!

We have so many crows around here and they can get quite noisy. I just heard a bunch of them in the trees on our hill. Kind of creepy sometimes!

  29. September 15, 2012 7:24 pm

That is a crow! Not my favorite bird though they receive a lot of respect and worship in India. It’s funny how if you start feeding one, it will always come to you at that exact spot, same time, every day!

That’s a big bird. Crows seem much bigger, and creepier, to me where we live now than when I was a kid. I guess because I grew up in the country — they didn’t have as much to eat as they do here in the city.

    Great shot!

  31. September 15, 2012 8:50 pm

Wonder what he is looking at! Great photo.

  32. September 15, 2012 9:27 pm

Would make a great painting! :)

  33. September 15, 2012 9:48 pm

    Definitely neat color contrasts there!

  34. September 15, 2012 10:09 pm

I love that shot and the red behind the bird makes it really pop!

  35. September 16, 2012 12:22 am

Definitely a crow. They are probably the most intelligent bird species and can even teach themselves to use tools.

  36. September 16, 2012 2:40 am

I like crows and most birds. There does seem to be something about them that creeps some people out though!

  37. September 16, 2012 1:05 pm

I have never been a fan of crows but this picture makes me see the beauty in them! I agree with the others who said it would make an excellent book cover!

  38. September 16, 2012 2:18 pm

This is a really really neat shot!! The three colors and the shapes are just striking. It could totally be a book cover for The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe or something of that ilk.

I love crows. They are so smart. We have a Florida crow that comes to the backyard where I scatter seed, and he will sometimes put peanuts in the birdbath to let the skins soak so they are easier to eat. This is a great shot of a really cool bird!

  40. September 17, 2012 11:22 pm

Beautiful photo, Kathy. The contrast is perfect. We have crows all over our yard :( There are brutes to other birds.

  41. September 18, 2012 11:05 am

This image would make a great book cover.

  42. September 19, 2012 12:06 pm

I just finished watching the remake of that movie where the birds attack a town. They looked exactly like these and yes I think they are crows. We have quite a few here and they freak me out!
