Author event and giveaway: Robert Leleux

September 11, 2012

Robert Leleux was the latest author to come to town for a Book Your Lunch event.  I was anxious to meet him since he writes memoirs and Erin of Hub City Books raves about him and his books.  I haven’t read either of his books yet but, after meeting him, I can see why Erin loves him.  Robert is a true Southern gentleman with a hearty laugh and an obvious love for his family.

Robert’s latest book, The Living End, grew out of an essay he wrote for The New York Times.  It’s the story of the reconciliation between his mother and grandmother in his grandmother’s last years.  Robert described his grandmother as a witty woman with a flair for language.  She and Robert’s flamboyant mother hated each other for as long as he could remember.  When Alzheimer’s took control of his grandmother’s mind, she forgot why she was angry and she and her daughter made amends.  Robert’s mother cared for his grandmother the last two years of her life.

Robert was raised in Texas and currently lives in New York City.  It took him four painful years to write The Living End.  When he’s not writing books, he writes for Lonny Magazine.

I got Robert to autograph a copy of The Living End for for one lucky reader.   To enter to win an autographed copy of THE LIVING END, simply fill out the entry form.  Contest is open worldwide – one entry per person, please.  I will use random.org to determine the winner.Contest ends at midnight EDT Tuesday, September 18, 2012.   Winner will be announced on Wednesday, September 19, 2012.  Comments are welcome (and appreciated) but will not get you an entry in the contest.

looking after someone who has alzheimers IS very emotional, I know, I do it. But in this case the disease may have been God’s plan to reunite two beings who should love one another. Great review, and generous offer.

I got a chance to hear him speak at SIBA, and he was really gracious and wonderful. He was also very funny, and I am glad that you are giving your readers a chance to win the book. It was one of the books that I found rather exciting, and I am glad that I will be reading it soon! Fantastic post today!

Robert is a favorite writer of mine. Makes you laugh and cry in the same paragraph. I read The Living End in one sitting- couldn’t put it down. I wish he’d come out with a new book soon!!!

Oh I knew I recognized this name — I read his earlier memoir, Memoirs of a Beautiful Boy, and enjoyed it. His mother is QUITE the character as I recall.

This looks like a powerful book and one that my mother would love.
