Author event and giveaway: Wendy Wax
I’ve gotten to know Wendy Wax the last few years so I’m always excited when she comes to town. Recently, she was here for a Book Your Lunch event and I was lucky enough to sit at her table.
Wendy calls herself a stay at home mom, but she’s really a work at home mom. She’s worked in radio, television, film, and publishing. She’s the author of 8 novels and 2 category romance novels – her first two novels were romance and the rest have been women’s fiction. She said her stories have become more complex because she wants each book to tell a similar story without repeating previous books.
Wendy’s newest book, Ocean Beach, is a continuation of the story that was started in Ten Beach Road – as a matter of fact, it picks up 6 months later. It’s the first sequel Wendy has ever written, and it’s already outselling its predecessor. The books tell the story of a group of women renovating historic homes. Wendy jokingly referred to home renovation as “porn for women,” and said she did research with renovators and decorators before she wrote the books.
Someone mentioned a children’s book author named Wendy Wax and she told us that they’ve met and discovered they have the same grandfather. Writing must be in their genes!
I got Wendy to autograph copies of Ten Beach Road and Ocean Beach for for one lucky reader. To enter to win autographed copies of TEN BEACH ROAD and OCEAN BEACH, simply fill out the entry form. Contest is open worldwide – one entry per person, please. I will use random.org to determine the winner.Contest ends at midnight EDT Monday, August 6, 2012. Winner will be announced on Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Comments are welcome (and appreciated) but will not get you an entry in the contest.

I like books that have home renovation as part of the plot. How gratifying it must be for Wendy Wax to see her sequel take off!
So, Wendy Wax is her real name; how fun that they have the same grandfather! Wonderful. I don’t need to enter as I’ve read both of these books and loved them. I hope we get to see the ladies again in another home renovation book!
Another great author event. I love her books – they are serious, but have a fun storyline.
I just found out that a local indie bookstore in Norfolk has author events. I’ve only been living here for 15 years :0
Home renovation is porn for women? erm, ok, must be the BDSM kind.
btw Kathy, I’ve just started a new blog about health, food, & lifestyles. If those stuff interest you, please do come have a look (it’s linked to my name)
thank you!
I would love to read more of her books. I read Magnolia Wednesday, and loved it.
I could get into a group of women renovating homes. Your giveaways are always so neat. How about the two Wendy’s isn’t that cool. Great Post
She is such an amazing lady, and I am planning on reading both of these books this summer. Hopefully I can make some time for them soon. I loved getting the chance to see her at SIBA, and hope that she is there this year as well! So lucky that you got this chance to see her again, Kathy!
I have heard of Wendy Wax, but have yet to read any of her books. I love the idea of reading about a group of women renovating homes–I’ve got so many ideas for my own, but lack the skill. LOL
How fun that you have all these great author events in your area.
As I am at the beach now I wish I had her books with me. Nothing better than reading about the beach at the beach!
I love Wendy! I’m jealous you got to spend some more time with her!
Book Your Lunch is such a great event you are able to attend! Thanks for the giveaway.
That is so cool about her finding a cousin with the same name who’s an author!
Same name and same grandfather? How bizarre! She must have a really large family.
Before I saw her photo I imagined Wendy Wax to be a little old wizened lady, how wrong could I be!
I bet she’s just delightful.
I’ve got Ten Beach Road waiting for me at the library today!
Oh my…I do just love your author events!
I wish I lived in your area so I could meet all of these great authors! I love Wendy’s comment about home renovation.
Kathy, thank you for hosting this giveaway!
This sounds like an author to look out for, great post and nice giveaway
The author events you attend alway sound so great.
I think all stay-at-home moms are work-at-home moms really. And what an interesting story about having the same grandfather!! It’s a small world.
My first book I read by her is Leave It To Cleavage… I have a funny story that goes with that one…
I enjoy her writing and have read neither of these books…. yet
I’ve read a few of her novels and really enjoyed them. Thanks for the chance to win! Ditto what Jenners wrote – was going to say the same
So cool that she and the ‘other’ Wendy Wax are so closely related! I think I have one of her books around here somewhere.
Thanks so much–sound like fun reads.
I just finished her latest book and really liked it!!!! I would love to meet her. You lucky girl, you!!
I always thought Ten Beach Road sounded good but never read it – thanks for hosting the giveaway!
