Giveaway: Silver Sparrow
Have you heard of The Algonquin Book Club? Four times a year, they host amazing literary events in local bookstores and simultaneously webcast them on their website. Their next event will be on June 19th at Barnes & Noble in New York City and will feature Judy Blume interviewing Tayari Jones!! Since I can’t be there, I will definitely be watching the live broadcast.
Tayari is the author of Silver Sparrow, which has just come out in paperback:
With the opening line of Silver Sparrow, “My father, James Witherspoon, is a bigamist,” author Tayari Jones unveils a breathtaking story about a man’s deception, a family’s complicity, and the two teenage girls caught in the middle.
Set in a middle-class neighborhood in Atlanta in the 1980s, the novel revolves around James Witherspoon’s two families—the public one and the secret one. When the daughters from each family meet and form a friendship, only one of them knows they are sisters. It is a relationship destined to explode. This is the third stunning novel from an author deemed “one of the most important writers of her generation” (the Atlanta Journal Constitution).
To celebrate, Algonquin is allowing me to give away three autographed copies of Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones! To enter to win an autographed copy of SILVER SPARROW, simply fill out the entry form. Contest is open to those in the US and Canada – one entry per person, please. I will use random.org to determine the winner. Contest ends at midnight EDT Wednesday, June 20, 2012. Winner will be announced on Thursday, June 21, 2012. Comments are welcome (and appreciated) but will not get you an entry in the contest.

How cool that she’s being interviewed by Judy Blume! Thanks for the giveaway.
Yay for Tayari Jones and Silver Sparrow! I absolutely loved that book — so moving, complex and real. In fact, you’ve reminded me: I read it for the Indie Lit Awards in the spring but never wrote my review! Eek. Must do that now.
I already have this but I have to say I just love Algonquin, and love that they are doing this book club!
Doesn’t this sound like a great book!? Secret: one of my grandfathers was a bigamist! :]

I haven’t read Silver Sparrow yet but I’ve wanted to read it for a while now and hope too soon.
I wasn’t aware of this Algonquin Book Club event. I didn’t receive any email from them though I signed up for it – hate when that happens. I get emails from B&N about their events but every B&N in Manhattan and Brooklyn sends out their own emails/newsletters so it’s a lot to go through and I often miss a few!
I’m going to look into attending this event although I wouldn’t be surprised if it was full. If I cannot attend I’ll be viewing the webcast too.
Thank you for the heads up about this, Kathy!
This sounds like a fabulous interview. Judy Blume was my favorite author growing up and I would love to hear what she is up to today. Thanks for sharing!
This one was recently reviewed in the AJC and I already have it on my wIshlist. Thanks for the heads up about the interview. That is so wonderful of Algonquin!
