Author event and giveaway: Kathryn Kay
I was so excited to meet Kathryn Kay at Fiction Addiction, I forgot to take a picture, so I grabbed this one from her website. I guess I was too busy chatting while I was there since Kathryn is so easy to talk to.
Kathryn was born in Michigan and grew up in England, returning to the US for high school. After several years of college, she moved to Florence, Italy for five years and studied antique restoration with an emphasis in 15th Century inlay. She currently lives in Nantucket with her family and teaches writing workshops for women at the Nantucket Writer’s Studio.
Since Kathryn’s debut novel is entitled The Gilder, I asked her what a gilder is. She told me a gilder is craftsman who performs gilding – using gold and silver to artistically cover an object with gold leaf. The Gilder is getting a lot of praise and gaining a lot of attention.
- National Geographic Traveler says it’s a must read for anyone traveling to Florence.
- Kathie Lee Gifford recommended it on The Today Show.
- The Gilder is an Indie Pick.
Kathryn’s next book is set in London and features three sisters.
When I asked Kathryn if she would make a video for me telling readers about The Gilder she happily obliged.
Thanks to Melissa at Fiction Addiction for taking this video for me and to Carl for editing it.
I got Kathryn to autograph a copy of The Gilder for one lucky reader. To enter to win an autographed copy of THE GILDER simply fill out the entry form. Contest is open worldwide – one entry per person, please. I will use random.org to determine the winner. Contest ends at midnight EST Thursday, April 26, 2012. Winner will be announced on Friday, April 27, 2012. Comments are welcome (and appreciated) but will not get you an entry in the contest.

Thanks for a wonderful interview. I’ll bet this novel is very good. Can’t wait to watch the video.
How cool that she made a video just for you! Wow! The book sounds really intersting — a mistake / a lie gone too far.
Sounds like Kay has a bit of wanderlust in her.
You always have sch wonderful author events near you! This one sounds like a good one!
Oh, to have traveled like this – I imagine this background added to her interest in art/restoration. I don’t have any plans to go to Florence, but will have to do so through the pages of this book!
I’m so jealous of your events!
I’m am just amazed at how many authors come to Fiction Addiction!
I hadn’t heard of this book before today and enjoyed watching the video. Thanks for the chance to win!
Kathryn sounds like an amazingly interesting woman, and the book is just the type of thing that I love to read. Thanks for the great spotlight and giveaway today, Kathy!
Great video and the book sounds really good. It sure has a pretty cover!
You get the best author events, you lucky girl. And isn’t she just wonderful? Adore the cover, thanks for such a great giveaway.
What an interesting life she’s had! I bet she has tons of wonderful stories.
Thank you for hosting this! I’ll post it in my blog’s sidebar, Kathy.
I didn’t know that was a profession before. Yes, I would like to go to Florence via my chair!
It sounds as though it’s a must read…loved her video!
Oooh! Sounds so good. Thanks for the giveaway.
Sounds interesting.
Have I told you how much I love the videos you do? Please keep’em coming
I kept reading “gilder” as “glider” and getting confused. Love that photo too.
Love debut authors, and how wonderful that she did a video!
It looks like a good book. Thanks for the giveaway!
It must have been some chat if you forgot to take pictures. Wonderful. Another blogger who is getting published!
How interesting she didn’t realize that the theme was forgiveness until half way through writing it. I hope I win (if I don’t, it’s on my list now!)
Excellent video chat. She sold me on reading her book.
Well, Kathy, if I don’t win I will have to buy this one – Jessica is doing study abroad in the Fall in Florence – just mailed off my first payment for housing the other day which I guess makes it real! I had Frommer’s Guide to Italy at the top ofthe list to buy but this is even more appealing!
This was awesome!!!
I confess to a little bit of jealousy over the places Kathryn has lived….it’s my fantasy life! England, Florence, Italy, the USA and settling in the best of all spots (for me) Nantucket! There’s no way I can’t read her debut novel! Thank you for hosting this giveaway of a signed copy, Kathy. As lways you are exceedingly thoughtful of your readers!
