Review: The Cut
Spero Lucas does some investigative work for an attorney who’s defending the head of an illegal drug operation. When he’s done with his work for the attorney the drug boss asks to meet with Spero privately because he’d like to hire him for a job of his own. It seems that someone has been stealing from his operation and he wants to catch them. Spero accepts the case and finds himself in the middle of a deadly game.
I thought The Cut by George Pelecanos was fantastic! I found it to be fast-paced and adrenaline filled and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. The twists and turns kept me guessing and wanting to know more. Even though the plot was a little complicated, it was easy to follow and, for the most part, felt pretty realistic.
I really enjoyed the character of Spero Lucas and was very excited to hear he’s going to be part of a new series! He’s troubled by his service in Iraq and I really liked the way Pelecanos showed the plight of some of our veterans in the story. Spero is close to his mother and brother but has trouble being in a committed relationship. In other words, he’s a fascinating and complicated character and a big part of the reason this book is so good!
Carl loved this book too! If you need a gift for someone who loves mysteries or thrillers, you can’t go wrong with The Cut. I can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out!

The only George Pelacanos book I read I didn’t love, but maybe I should give him a try again.
This does sound good Kathy, and I’ve enjoyed this author in the past as well.
I’m going to look for this – it sounds like one my husband would enjoy!
I’ve read one title by this author. Can’t remember the title at the moment. I remember having the same feelings. I wanted to stay with the book until finished, a real page turner. Enjoyed your review.
I don’t really a lot of mysteries or thriller, but they always sound good to me. Great review!
Sounds exciting and definitely one TBG and I would both like.
You just convinced me to move this one up on my list.
I haven’t written my review yet, but I also read and liked this. I didn’t think it got bogged down in “issues” like some of his more recent novels have.
I don’t often look twice at books like this, but your enthusiasm over this book has me wanting to go out and grab it! What a wonderful and enticing review today, Kathy! Thanks!

Nothing is better than a lively fast paced book. I will check this one out for sure.
Sounds like another good read that’s fast paced, perfect for when you only have snippets of time to read
I read The Night Gardener and I loved it. I don’t think it involved this character, but still had great personalities and it was dark and gritty, just the way I like my mysteries!
I love when you bring me close to a book that was totally off my radar….my sister would love this I think…..and her birthday is in January!! Thanks so much!
