Author event and giveaway: Lisa Patton

October 14, 2011

I’ve met Lisa Patton a couple times and know how sweet and funny she is, so I was very excited when I saw she was coming for a Book Your Lunch event and I signed up right away.  The event was everything I was expecting and more!  Lisa is kind, grateful, and full of life!

Lisa used to work in the music industry and quickly realized that the entertainment industry loves young women, but when a woman reaches the age of forty, they’re ready to replace her.  As she started getting older, she knew she had to re-invent herself, especially since she’s a single mother.  Thankfully, she decided to try her hand at writing – it took 14 years from her idea to the publication of her first book (Whistlin’ Dixie in a Nor’easter), but she had to write the second one (Yankee Doodle Dixie) in a year and a half since it was purchased in advance.  She is currently working on the third book featuring LeeLee Satterfield and friends.

It’s hard to believe, but Lisa has two sons who are in their twenties – one is a musician and the other is going to be a counselor.  Her literary inspiration is Fannie Flagg, and she was lucky enough to meet her last year!

For more of what Lisa had to say, check out this video:

I got Lisa to autograph her two books for one lucky reader.  To enter to win an autographed copy of WHISTLIN’ DIXIE IN A NOR’EASTER and YANKEE DOODLE DIXIE both by Lisa Patton, simply fill out the entry form.  Contest is open worldwide.  I will use random.org to determine the winner. Contest ends at midnight EST Saturday, October 22, 2011.   Winner will be announced on Sunday, October 23, 2011.  Comments are welcome (and appreciated) but will not get you an entry in the contest.

Oh shoot. I’m so sorry I don’t have time to listen to this whole talk. How cool that she mentions you! I’ll be back to listen some more at lunchtime.

I’m like Candace, I can’t listen to all of that right now but I do so love her! She is someone you could hang out with (which we did) and laugh with. She is quite the story-teller, and just an overall good person.

That was an interesting weblog. I could hear you gasp when she mentioned your name. You should be proud Kathy of what you do for readers in blog land. Thanks for posting the weblog and the giveaway.

That was absolutely delightful! I loved listening to Lisa talk and also loved your gasp, Kathy. LOL

She’s such a good storyteller. I haven’t read the books, but I definitely will. I think there is probably a lot I don’t know about living in the northern regions, but I think that there is probably a lot that we people of the south don’t mention all the time about our areas either. Lots of room for comedy.

Lisa is just such a funny woman, and I feel so lucky that we were able to have her come to dinner with us at SIBA. Her stories are one of a kind, and she was just so much fun to hang out with! So glad that you got the chance to reconnect with her again at the event!

She is delightful! I have my fingers crossed that I’ll win. Loved the story about her son and the “cup.” Very funny. And she’s right – we don’t bury our dead in the winter – the ground is too frozen.

I’m back just in time. I love Lisa Patton and I’m only a little jealous you got to see her (totally jealous she met Fannie Flagg) I’ve missed hearing about all your wonderful brushes with literary greatness, I’m so happy I’m back.

What a wonderful weblog!! Lisa was wonderful, and she is right, the difference between the South and the NE is just HUGE!! We moved to St. Louis from Dallas when I was 6, and it was in February. The piles of dirty snow were everywhere, and it was so ugly. I wanted my daddy to just take us back home!!
I have her first book, need to read it!! I hope I win the second one!!

Thanks for taking me along to the author lunch, Kathy :) I loved listening to Lisa’s talk and curiously felt thirsty around the 3:20 mark ;) I have her first book and look forward to reading it in the next few months. I’ve added her second to my list! Great post.

I just started reading Whistlin’ Dixie last night and will read Yankee Doodle Dixie right after. I love that I got a chance to see your clip and see Lisa speak. She is exactly how I imagined her to be! Now I look forward to reading both books even more. I am thrilled to see there will be a third book too! Thanks for sharing this wonderful event with us!

What lovely comments ladies!! I’m blushing. Thank you Kathy, for all you do. Your kind words mean so much. Without you and the other fab book blog hosts we authors would have a really hard time spreading the word about our books!! Looking forward to coming back to Greenville! Xoxo p.s. Rosie sends her love
