Saturday Snapshot

June 25, 2011

We had a little visitor last weekend and Milou wasn’t quite sure what to make of it.  She decided to check it out from the bottom step.  The turtle hung around for a little while, snuggled down in the flower bed and then left.

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books.  It’s easy to participate – just post a picture that was taken by you, a friend, or a family member and add your link on Alyce’s site.

    That’s so funny! Great shot!

Ha! I love this! I’m glad Milou didn’t get too close (is it a snapping turtle?)

What a lovely picture! Isn’t it lovely, watching your dog encounter unknown creatures?

That’s cute! A wayward turtle. I didn’t realize they would leave their pond and venture into gardens.

  5. June 25, 2011 11:17 am

    Hahaha. Very cute!

  6. June 25, 2011 11:36 am

So adorable! Can you imagine life as a turtle? I love the *intensity* of Milou’s response!

We have a lot of turtles around here too, and once there was a big one in the middle of the street and Frank got out of the car to move it. It peed all over him! It was so funny because he was on the way to church and he had to go home and change his clothes. It made him annoyed, but he still saves turtles that get themselves stuck in the road.

How fun! We discovered a bunny in our garden this morning. They are so cute, but so destructive

This so sweet. Love how Milou is looking at the turtle!!

Cute shot! Don’t worry, Milou, it is only a box turtle; it won’t bite you (just please don’t turn it on its back).

  11. June 25, 2011 12:11 pm

We had one of those visitors a few weeks ago too.

  12. June 25, 2011 12:25 pm

OMG, how fun is that! I wished that would happen here too. ;)

  13. June 25, 2011 12:45 pm

How cute is that??? I’ve never had a turtle wander into the yard!

  14. June 25, 2011 12:46 pm

Haha! I love it! Milou is a smart cookie. Turtles could put a real hurting on a dog. We had a massive (I mean like as big as a truck tire) snapper in our backyard a few years ago and it was just foul. Real bad attitude. I think it could have taken my arm off. All the animals cleared out, even the racoons.

Very cool visitor Kathy. Your dog appears so interested

LOVE this! When I was growing up in the TX countryside, we had turtles pop by all the time. Occasionally I would keep one in a shoebox for a few days, feed it well, and then let it go back out into the wild. So much fun.

Never get such exotic creatures visiting in the UK (the odd hedgehog or squirrel maybe!). Fun photo!

I’d like to know what Milou was thinking when the turtle appeared. Cute shot!

  19. June 25, 2011 2:31 pm

I can’t help but wonder how long it took for the turtle to get to your yard! I mean, was he just out for a little all day stroll? Or was this his big life adventure?

  20. June 25, 2011 2:45 pm

Milou is so cute :) And I really thought the same thing as Jill (above) did :)

  21. June 25, 2011 2:52 pm

Oh my goodness. I can see why Milou was interested. Is it still around?

  22. June 25, 2011 2:57 pm

LOL – cool shot! I love turtles. I rescued one on the highway not once but twice a couple weeks ago and it was the first time I’d so much as seen a turtle in years.

LOL! This is such a cute picture! I’m so glad you captured the moment on film.

How cute!! Isn’t it funny how big dogs tend to be timid around smaller animals. My son’s weimreiner (a large dog) was absolutely terrified of flies. If one got into the house, he would run around crying and would try and find a hiding place.

That is so cute and funny!!

Great photo! We have two of these large turtle living in on our property. It is such a joy to see one of them making its way across the yard. They have two deep holes on the side of the yard. Very cool.

  27. June 25, 2011 6:37 pm

We’ve seen quite a few turtles lately as well on our walks…a huge bullfrog lives down the street, but he might as well be a sea monster for all my dogs know ;)

  28. June 25, 2011 6:54 pm

The expression on Milou’s face seems to be saying – “I am watching you so don’t come any closer”!

Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a tutle that bog just milling around. Is this something you see often on your neck of the woods?

So cute…I love turtles!!! My neighbor was swimming with a snapping turtle in her pool last week!!!

  31. June 25, 2011 11:00 pm

That’s a great picture! Love seeing the turtle from Milou’s point of view.

We had a turtle visitor this week too…but I haven’t gotten my pictures downloaded yet. Here’s what I’ve got instead: http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2011/06/saturday-snapshot-june-25.html

I’m surprise your pup did not jump on the shell. The only turtle is know is Franklin ;)

  33. June 26, 2011 7:30 am

How amazing that is. Must have been a wonderful sight.

  34. June 26, 2011 9:14 am

I was watching a couple of turtles from a far on my walk the other day. Glad Milou did as well.

  35. June 26, 2011 11:50 am

    Great shot, Kathy!

  36. June 26, 2011 9:05 pm

I’m sure the turtle seemed like a strange alien to Milou!

  37. June 27, 2011 12:38 am

    Ahhhh… great pic!

  38. June 27, 2011 4:03 am

Milou is so cute! And I love turtles :)

  39. June 27, 2011 5:16 am

I love that Milou was unsure about approaching it. Cute

  40. June 27, 2011 11:20 am

We have lots of turtles and frogs in our pond next to Dave’s machine shop. They have to stay alert for neighborhood dogs and cats and the big snake that lives in there too.

  41. June 27, 2011 4:33 pm

That turtle is so lucky it walked away unscathed!

The Otter Pup is a house dog, but she cannot stand the rabbits, the possums. the raccoons or the ground squirrels that have taken over our yard. She’d probably chicken out if she actually confronted them, but from the safety of the family room, she sure acts like the big dog she isn’t :)

  42. June 28, 2011 12:05 pm

That is so cool! We just don’t have turtles around here like that.

  43. June 29, 2011 11:10 am

That’s such a fun shot! Like Alyce, we don’t have turtles hanging around here. Love it!

  44. June 30, 2011 7:52 pm

What a great picture! I’m not sure what my dog would think about a turtle.

  45. July 1, 2011 9:24 pm

Milou is lucky she didn’t get her nose snapped at!

  46. July 3, 2011 9:41 am

Until you said it, iI was wondering what in the world that was. Giant mushroom? Frog? Green rock?

  47. July 6, 2011 12:23 am

I love your angle on this one.
