Author event and giveaway: River Jordan

April 28, 2011

I recently read, and loved, River Jordan’s newest book, Praying for Strangers, so I was thrilled to sit next to her at her recent Book Your Lunch event.  The first thing I wanted to know was how her son’s are doing.  She said they’re both in the US and doing well, but one has orders for Afghanistan.

I found River to be sincere, earnest, and unassuming.   She considers herself an introvert and a novelist, so she feels that Praying for Strangers was a book she was never meant to write.  River found her resolution of praying for a stranger every day to be so fulfilling for herself and those she was praying for that she has decided to continue it.  She may not do it every single day now, but she feels that she will probably do it for the rest of her life.   She sees it as a way to connect with humanity in this day of hustle and bustle and social media, and it was obvious to me that it’s important to her.   Here’s what she had to say at the lunch:

I loved Praying for Strangers so much, I bought copies for several friends, plus one copy to give away to a lucky reader.  To enter to win an autographed copy of PRAYING FOR STRANGERS by River Jordan, simply fill out this entry form.  Contest is open worldwide.  I will use random.org to determine the winner. Contest ends at midnight EST Saturday, May 7, 2011.   The winner will be announced on Sunday, May 8, 2011.  Comments are welcome (and appreciated) but will not get you an entry in the contest.

I think that this book and her commitment are very inspiring. I try to pray everyday, but I am not always on top of remembering, and the fact that she says that she will do this for the rest of her life is very impressive. Thanks for sharing this, and for the great giveaway!

Oh Kathy, what a treat that video was! I wanted to read the book after your review, but now I have to read it. She is so personable and genuine. I love her sense of humor as well. I appreciate the author talks or interviews. It gives me a good look at the person behind the words so, thanks for sharing your Lunch With the Authors with all of us.

I watched the video and really love the idea of praying for strangers. I have done this before when U have read or heard about someone’s tragedy on TV. I would love to read this book and pass it on to my friends.
