Saturday Snapshot
January 15, 2011
This is another photo we brought home after my dad passed away. My mom said she was around 9 or 10 years old and when she came home from school, her mother told her to change into those clothes and then the two of them, along with my mother’s pet goat, walked to the photography studio to have this portrait made.
Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books. It’s easy to participate – just post a picture that was taken by you, a friend, or a family member and add your link on Alyce’s site.

What a fun shot! You look like your mom. And now we need to hear the story of the pet goat….
A pet goat? Now there must be a story behind that I have missed. What a beautiful photo of your mother and her goat. I adore looking at older photographs.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh…I just love the photo.
THANKS.
I love that story – and that your mom had a pet goat
I love this picture! Your mom looks happy and just a bit nervous having her picture taken. It’s so cute how she’s holding the goat like she’s protecting him/her and the goat looks so comfortable sitting next to her. I love your mom’s dress, it’s so pretty and her mary jane shoes.
So is there a story about your mom’s pet goat?!
Thanks for sharing this!

I wouldn’t have even noticed the pet goat had you not mentioned it. I can see the family resemblance between you and your mom.
Wonderful picture, Kathy! Alyce is right, there definitely is a resemblance between you and your mom.
I love old family photos. The goat is a wonderfully fun addition!
Thanks for sharing the story behind this photo. I love that your mom had a pet goat.
I love it! My dad had a whole menagerie of pets when he was a kid too. Raccoons, skunks, goats, turtles. That is how a kid should grow up! This picture is a classic…you should frame it and hang it.
That is too darn cute!
This picture is a real treasure. Who else has a picture of their mom with a pet goat?
Another wonderful photo! The pet goat is precious.
I almost missed the goat! Usually the portrait studio pictures were so formal and serious. But this is nice, a slice of real life. And a lovely photo.
I love that they had to bring a pet goat to their photo shoot! Such a cute photo.
I hope you’re planning to tell the story of how and why your mom had a pet goat…I can completely understand…we had a squirrel for a little while
I just love old photos…especially the whole idea of looking at them from the perspective of a different generation and trying to fill in all the blanks
Is that a goat I see *looks closely* Strange and nice
I didn’t see the goat until you talked about. That is such a sweet picture.

I love this picture and, yes, like others can see the resemblance between you two. It’s very cute, but I don’t think I ever saw a girl with her goat in a professional photo! LOL
Thanks for sharing it!
Ha! Old family pictures are so much fun.
The first thing I saw was the bangs. I love them. I don’t see them too much anymore. I also like the way the photographer arranged the photo with your mom on one side of the chair.
This photo is one of my all-time favorites…EVER! Love the little goat with your mom. Priceless.
I’m with Candace, let the good time goat stories roll!
I love it! What a wonderful photo to pass down. I wonder what the photographer thought of the goat? The goat is so tiny, I didn’t realize it was a goat at first.
Such a beautiful photo! I love it!
Is that a kid (aka baby goat) next to your mom?? I did a double take and smiled when I saw your mom with the kid.
Thank you for sharing this one with us.
Oh how I always wanted to have a pet goat (a goat made it into The Bird Sisters because of it!). Beautiful shot.
That is so cool that your mom had a pet goat! Billy is most impressed.
I love old family photos =)
And that is the cutest goat I’ve ever seen!
Love it! Interesting that she had her picture made with the goat!
What a terrific photo of your mom and her pet goat. Kathy, you look similar to your mom.
Aw, a pet goat, that’s great! One of my best friends has goats, and I just happened to be there the week the second generation was born, so we call them my Godkids. They remind you of funny looking puppies when they’re still young.
Great shot!
But, I digress.
I didn’t see the goat until I look very closely in the picture. What a lovely picture of your mother!
I die over pictures like these. Love them. Sadly I don’t have any prints of my grandparents and their families but next time I head to Utah I think I’ll work on that. Such treasures. I didn’t notice the goat either–how funny!
A pet goat? How cute!
I love pictures like these; my mom has a few of her and of her family and they’re my favorites.
That is simply fantastic!
A pet goat! My Dad had a pet duck that swam in his bathtub but no goats. Love that photo!
What a treasure of a photo, Kathy! Yes, there’s definitely a strong family line, isn’t there?!
Kathy, your mother and you share the same eyes and cheekbones. I can really see the family resemblance. And how cool is it that she had a pet goat? Awesome photo, thanks for sharing it with us.
I love the photo and the story behind it. I love that your mom had a pet goat! I loved that they just went and had their portraits taken one random day!
I thought it was your photo until I read the post
Great pic
I love going over older photos with my parents/grandparents. I’ve learned so many great stories about their lives that way. I love that photo! Thanks for sharing.
How funny!! I didn’t even notice the goat at first.
I absolutely LOVE this picture!!
This is such a treasure, wow! It is lovely. And what a lovely goat@!
Oh you were so cute!! You remind me of Scout with that haircut!
This is such a wonderful picture. I have one of my mom that is very similar to this. My mom’s hair is just about the same. I think that hair cut must have been the style back in the day.
Your mother’s pet goat is so well behaved!
That is such a sweet photo…and she had a pet goat? How does one get a pet goat? I think I want a pet goat…
What a wonderful picture! I love the goat…haha!
