Morning Glory

December 23, 2010

When Becky (Rachel McAdams) gets the job as executive producer of the struggling morning show Daybreak, she’s given 6 weeks to turn things around, or the show will be canceled.  She attacks the job with a fury and the first thing she does is fire one of the co-hosts.   When she realizes old-school news reporter Mike Pomeroy (Harrison Ford)  is on the station’s payroll, she forces him to take the position.  Pomeroy resents having to do fluff pieces with co-host Colleen Peck (Diane Keaton) and brings quite a superior attitude with him to the job.  At her wit’s end, Becky pulls out all the stops and in the process, she and Mike come to an agreement and even learn something from each other.

With its all-star cast and pre-release publicity, I had high expectations for Morning Glory, but in the end I was somewhat disappointed in the movie.  That’s not to say that I hated it – I did enjoy it, but not as much as I had hoped to.   The movie was cute and the acting in the movie was fine – McAdams performance was particularly well done – but something was lacking.  The movie seemed to be missing chemistry between the actors and some of the attempts at humor fell flat with me.   I think it was all a little too predictable and cliché.  You should wait until you can rent it to see this movie.

Oh, it’s a DVD. I will have to fix up my queue on Netflix.

This did look cute, but a little standard to me so I probably will wait for a dvd or cable release.

Too bad:( I want to see The Little Fockers, but fear I’ll feel the same way as you did about this one, so maybe both will wait for “on demand”.

I hate hearing so many movies one wants to be good turn out to be disappointments! We need some more GOOD movies!

Your review is similar to one that I read in a major entertainment magazine. Maybe you should start a new career?

  6. December 23, 2010 7:51 am

Oh drat. I had high hopes for this one too. Maybe I’ll wait for Netflix or HBO to watch it.

yeah, sounds like a good renter :-)

We felt the same way about it…cute, but not a big deal.

Honestly I had no hopes at all for this one. I like all the actors individually, but Keaton especially has fallen into a rut with the type of movies she’s been doing lately. Her schtick has gotten old with me, which is sad since I totally LOVE Baby Boom.

Oh, that’s too bad. I think this looked cute as well.

  11. December 23, 2010 9:37 am

Darn it! I love Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford but maybe I should see them separately rather than in the same movie. I’ll probably rent this one though for some light entertainment on a snowy evening.

The commercials for this seemed like it might be cute, but I haven’t been to see it. It’s too bad it wasn’t a hit – it has a great cast.

I hadn’t yet heard of this movie, but after reading your review, I think I will skip it. It’s funny, I think this year I have watched fewer movies than ever before, and I seem to only watch the ones people have raved about. I figure if I am going to invest 2 hours of my time, it better be good! Thanks for your honest take on this one!

  14. December 23, 2010 10:12 am

Sorry to hear that this was less than terrific. I love both Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford, but the movies of theirs that I like tend to be ones from years past, i.e., Witness, Regarding Henry, Annie Hall and Baby Boom.

Thanks for the heads up. With the price of movies these days, I tend to be very selective about what we see :)

I really like that 2nd lady (last one, right).. I have seen her in some other movie and really like her :)

  16. December 23, 2010 11:11 am

Meh, I am sure I will watch it anyway, but it does not impress me

  17. December 23, 2010 11:13 am

Hmmmm guess I’ll wait for DVD then….

Loved her in The Notebook… cried my eyes out… just thinking of that one makes me tear up again!

  18. December 23, 2010 11:17 am

I saw it too and had the same reaction. Normally I love Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton but they were way off in this one. The movie reminded me of Broadcast News but not as good as that one.

  19. December 23, 2010 11:24 am

    I actually loved this one.

  20. December 23, 2010 12:23 pm

I’ve heard a lot of mixed feelings on this one – what a bummer, since it has such a good cast!

  21. December 23, 2010 12:52 pm

This is one to wait for on DVD!!

  22. December 23, 2010 12:55 pm

I had hopes for this one too. I’ll probably never get around to watching it on DVD though.

  23. December 23, 2010 1:39 pm

Might try this one on dvd

  24. December 24, 2010 6:57 am

This movie looked kind of cute but hearing you weren’t fond of it makes me think it may not be worth the watch.

  25. December 26, 2010 11:53 am

I had hoped this one was going to be better–it has such great actors. Sounds like it will make a good rental!

How disappointing. I love the actors in this one and I was looking forward to it too. Not that we get to go to the movies much. Over the weekend we saw Little Fockers and it was a huge disappointment for me.

  27. December 26, 2010 11:37 pm

Bummer to hear that. But I get where you’re coming from. With a lot of these movies coming out lately, the publicity has just been too much so that when I actually go see the movie, it doesn’t live up to my expectations.

  28. December 28, 2010 4:36 pm

Sorry you didn’t really enjoy it. I wasn’t sure I would like it that well either…I can’t stand predictable ALL the time, and only parts of the previews seemed cool to me.

  29. December 28, 2010 5:43 pm

This is definitely one I will enjoy watching but will wait for the DVD.
